Bait-and-switch!!!

At Christmas time last Dec. I was shopping for books -- an offer to get $30 off my order if I applied for a Chase card popped up -- I applied and purchased my books -- NO credit, when I called about it (after I received my shipped books) they said it was for my next purchase. I said I didn't want another credit card, just the $30 credit. Too bad for me.

In july when brousing for books and clicking to see what the used book rates were, I ended up buying books I DIDN"T want -- Amazon had turned on my "instant buy" buttons -- Books were shipped I couldn't believe it. Books I don't want and then a bill from Chase for $4.53 for the difference from my $30 credit and what I purchased. This whole thing was just a bid SCAM between Amazon and Chase -- I will not buy books or have a Chase Credit card -- they both sat on their hands and said: Well, you bought the books. You can return them for a credit! Yeah, right! Now, I have to return books (I didn't want in the first place) at my expense to get a credit (I only wanted for books at x-mas). THis whole thing just stinks.

I think that Amazon should not be able to turn on somebody's instant buy buttons and then pretend like they didn't do it. I also think that if they are going to partner up with Chase for a $30 credit on purchasing books, they shouldn't hide behind Chase. And Chase, by the way, totally hid behind Amazon when I called them about this.

1st its not a Bait & Switch. Perhaps that is why poster below this
can't understand what happened and also your getting wrong advice and
feedback from some posters herebelow.

You Are Correct. Amazon Visa will not Credit your Visa Card
Automatically, although it advertises "within a few days."

I tested the VISA application also. And to be positively sure that
there are no mistakes; I waited until my Visa card was approved. Only
thereafter I made the purchase.

I was told exactly the same as you -- Plus 1/2 dozen more excuses.
[Now First]: One must distinguish between: (1) Did you apply for the
VISA card and then click the SUBMIT button on your purchase ? OR
(2)Did you purchase 1st and then thereafter applied for the VISA ?
(Pop-ups are irrelevant if you did NOT click the "Purchase Submit"
button before making the VISA application.)

If the you did the later you must wait until a another purchase is
made. If you did the former, then legally they must give you a $30.00
credit within a few days.
And can submit a complaint to proper state authorities, including
federal. You also have a right to take a Small Claims Court action.
Check your tort laws of the state you live-in for damages allowed
beyond actual costs.

My History:
My credit did not appear until I logged numerous complaints. Although
followed proper procedure, namely: I applied first. Waited for the
approval. Then made the purchase. It did not automatically credit my
VISA account.
I tested buy.com also. And buy.com was reputable in doing as it
advertised.

This has just happened tome as well. After I filled out the credit
application, the $30 offer disappeared. very sleazy on Amazon's part.
When i called to say I didn't want the card, I was repeatedly
threatened with damage to my credit rating.

This actually is not bait-and-switch at all.

I used this promotion at Christmas, and it worked just fine. I had no
problem whatsoever. The credit was applied to my purchase on the
credit card bill. No further purchase was necessary. Brenda is right
about the instant buy. You clicked on the wrong button. I used the
same promotion with Buy.com two years ago and also had no problems.

If you read everything carefully and follow the instructions, the
promotion works exactly as stated.

Your "instant buy" button is turned on when you sign in. You have 2
options, add to cart and buy now with one click. You clicked on the
wrong button. That isn't their fault.

As for the credit card, did you USE it for that first purchase?

Their website clearly states how it works.

"Your Amazon.com Visa Card account will automatically be credited $30
within a few days of your first purchase with the card. The discount
will appear as a credit on your credit card statement."
