Amazon Should Think Outside The Box

i ordered two small bags of buttons for 1.99 each... the total for the two was nearly four dollars- the shipping was over four dollars so the total is 9.55- tell me i'm not the only one who thinks this is the most absurd thing ever.... amazon has this habit of sending things in boxes that are way too big- which probabably doesn't help shipping costs... what ever happened to sending things in packages that are appropriate.. it's just ridiculous.... it makes me sooooooooo mad!!!!

start sending things in appropriate packages- seriously- what kind of protection do buttons really need??? start making the shipping costs fit the items... it just doesn't make sense that the shipping costs would be more than the item...

I agree, in a way. But, shipping is shipping. It's the shippers who
set the rate, and then merchants add a handling fee. Hence, 'shipping
AND handling'.

Also, you knew the cost of shipping AND handling when you placed the
order.

And, I'm not sure I understand why you wouldnt just go to, say,
Walmart, and buy such small items there? And, if that is not a
possibility, was that REALLY all you wanted? Why not add to the order?
Most items have free s/h with Amazon, if you purchase $25. Not bad, as
most places are $75, $100 or even $150. If even at all.

As much as I dislike Amazon, I cant say they are to blame here. Seems
to me, they did think outside the box. (Esp. when they shipped my Star
Wars Gunship outside a shipping box GRRRR. lol And, I had to pay for
s/h, because most toys arent included in free shipping)

Brenny brought up a good point that I dont think customers take into
consideration. Charges are not mearly for shipping but also for
handling. That charge helps to cover the cost of workers who have to
put your shipment together and pack it properly. If you look at it
that way 4 bucks really isnt bad.

I agree with Cass. I always make sure I spend at least $25. Even
though I'm playing right into their hand, at least I know I get
something of value ( an extra CD or movie) for my money instead of
paying $5-$10 for shipping.

Even if there is absolutely nothing I want at that time (which has
never happened), I can think ahead to the next holiday or birthday
(Mother's Day is in 2 months), and look for gifts.

It is kind of a drag, but as Brenny said, they have to pay for the
packaging, the warehouse staff, etc. They do offer free shipping for
$25 or more... which has me right where they want me - I haven't
placed an order for less than $25 in years!

It's shipping and handling. They have to pay for the packaging and pay
for the people who pack your items. $4 is reasonble.

You were told how much the shipping was before hand weren't you? You
ALWAYS have the option of NOT ordering from Amazon if you don't want
to pay the shipping. Maybe online ordering isn't for you.

I've been meaning to complain to Amazon about their shipping rates as
well. I got a $25 gift certificate for my birthday, ordered three USED
books (one was $1.00), and paid more for the shipping than for the
books. With what was left a couple of months later, I ordered a box
of teabags and had to add money to it to cover the shipping.

Crummy, right?
