Poor Customer Service

I purchased a Macbook last week (Friday, 12/22/08) for my wife. I got the higher spec'd version (2.2 Mhz, 2GB RAM, 120GB Hard Drive). I paid approximately $1500. This morning (2/26/08) I visited Apple's site and noticed that all the models had been upgraded and for the same price that I paid 4 days ago, I could have had a 250GB HD, 2GB RAM and a 2.4Mhz processor (bigger, better, faster, etc.). When I called Apple (both support and my local store), I was told that there was no price adjustment available and that if I wanted a newer version, I could return the old one, but pay a restocking fee of $150 (10%).

Those solutions are completely unacceptable. Had I known that the new versions would be available, I would have waited (4 days). Instead, I've been penalized.

I would like Apple to:

(1) Replace my computer without charging me the restocking fee; or

(2) Give me a price adjustment/credit.

I am pleased to report that Apple resolved this matter in a manner
satisfactory to both parties.

Yep. This is what's called in the industry, "Buyer's
Remorse". But not "Poor Customer Service. The mac you
purchased four days ago is a fine machine.

If the current configuration fits your foreseeable needs, which is
possible since you thought it was worth paying for, then the new offer
shouldn't mean a thing. If it does, you can always return it, pay the
restoking fee, and get a much better computer. Find out what it would
cost to upgrade, and think of the 10 percent as a small price to pay
for a machine that will probably become obsolete in the next six
months, just like all computers.

Don't you just hate when this happens?

Some companies will allow you to get the difference back, if the price
changes within a certain number of days (like 30). Some don't.

Look at it this way: when you purchased, you got what you wanted for a
price you were willing to pay. The fact that there's something better
(and/or cheaper) shouldn't change the fact that you made the decision
to buy.

I wonder how many people complain when the prices go up?

I bought gas last week for a few cents/gallon cheaper than it's
selling for today. I suppose, following your logic, that I should
give the gas station some extra money.

Be happy with your purchase. With technology, there will always be
something better and prices will always fall.

Oh, and one more thing. You did NOT buy on 12/22/08. That date won't
happen for another 10 months. I think you meant 2/22/08.

Did you do any research? New versions are covered in the techie news
world; surely if you'd done a little reading, you'd have discovered
that a new version was about to be released and you could have waited.
