Failure to submit claims to Insurance carriers, but billing its customers.

Posted Tue May 29, 2012 5:34 pm, by Hannelore B. written to Apria Healthcare Corporate Office

Although we have complete coverage with Medicare and Gap-Insurance, covering all medical devices and servicesd by Medicare and Anthem. Apria sent us an invoice in the amount of $1,729.28 for a BiPap Machine, and the statement shows, that payment is due on receipt of this invoice. All our previous bills with this company were paid in full by the insurance carriers, and Apria had all this information on its file for at least five years, and we haven't moved either. This is an atack on our integrety, paying our bills, including insurance premiums in a timely manner.
Calls to its Corporate Office and its Rep. KKay were rudely handled and not handled in a professional manner.

No reason was given, why they billed us for this large amount, although they knew, that we have insurance coverage. We had spent four hours to get this matter settled, but were told that research would be necessary, before this can be resolved. We are afraid that Apria's incorrect billing, can ruin our credit and could have led to a possible collection procedure. This company and its billing practices cann't be accepted.

Apria plays this game where they bill the insurance company one
amount, and bill the customer another. They cannot explain the
discrepancy and it takes months of going back and forth before things
are resolved.

Sadly this is not new with Apria. I went through the same hassle when
my father was using them for his CPAP supplies. That was over 20 years
ago.

If I had another company to use (and one that wasn't bought out by
Apria), I'd use them. But I'm stuck with them.

All this hand-wringing over what apparently was one misdirected bill?

Again, have you called your insurance company to find out why this is
not being covered? Do not always blame the provider, sometimes the
insurance company has an issue. As someone with a lot of medical
issues I find it usually is something easy to remedy like an incorrect
code.
