Old derogatory information

Posted Mon October 13, 2008 9:00 pm, by demetrio d. written to Bank of America

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I had Bank of America loans for almost 10 years. Back in 2002-2003 I was traveling extensively out of the country and I paid my bills irregulalrly, late one month and catch up the next month with both payments, a few times.
Last lates were around 2002-2003. All my loans have been paid in full.
I asked several times BofA to remove those derogatory information from my credit report. They have constantly refused

I would like to Bank Of America to remove the derogatory information regarding late payments from my credit reports.

If I stab someone and get convicted, I don't think the courts will
take off that charge because it looks derogatory.

You keep using this word, derogatory. I do not think it means what you
think it means.

You were late. How is that derogaroty?

It's not ok to be late on your bills, period. Pay on time or live
with the consequences of a diminished credit score.

That is like asking a credit company to remove a bankruptcy. The
entire point of the credit history is to reflect how you paid. It
would not be a true reflection if you could demand your poor payment
history removed.

It is not BOFA's fault you could not be more responsible and pay your
bills on time. I have never seen an exception that If you are out of
the country BOFA will take your payments when you get around to
sending it.

of having a credit HISTORY if that history doesn't accurately reflect
what's happened.

Yes, there were extenuating circumstances, but some would argue that
if you could pay the bill late, you could have made arrangements with
BOA or better still, paid on time.

It doesn't seem fair that now that you have paid off the bill, you
want them to fix your report so it looks as if you have no negative
marks showing.

Take it as a lesson learned and let it go - Credit histories are only
7-10 years anyway and you're coming up on that soon. So long as you
have nothing more on your history that would be a concern, there's
nothing to worry about.

So now that things are cleared up you want your bad payment record
expunged.
It does not work that way...you will have to accept the fact that due
to your late payments your credit history suffers.
Maybe you will think differently about being so non-chalant about
paying on time with your next loan.

I hate bank of america credit cards. I finally paid mine off last
month and today I get the bill and it says "minimum finance charge" of
$1.50. I paid the 40.00 and odd cent bill in Sept. thinking I was done
with it and they come up with this minimum finance charge.

I can't NOT pay it since it would ding my credit report and why bother
going thru the hassle of getting it removed for a measly 1.50? I just
thought it was unnecessary since the $40 was the only total left and I
paid the whole thing. I would avoid BOA, I shredded that card today.

It doesn't matter that you were out of the country - - you admit that
you did not pay your loans as agreed therefore the late payment
notations should remain on your credit report.

This is your third letter today regarding the fact you did not pay as
agreed to three creditors and now appear to be trying to clean up your
credit. Sorry, but it doesn't work this way. If you had paid better
attention to your finances you would not be in this situation.

Why couldn't you manage your accounts online when you were traveling?
Were you in areas for extended periods of time that had no Internet
access? If that was the case, you could have asked a trustworthy
friend or relative to handle your finances for you while you were
away. This is what a responsible person does when they are unable to
handle their own affairs.

"Derogatory" doesn't mean "erroneous," and as such, I agree with
others that these black marks should remain on your credit report.

The problem is that the info is accurate. So I don't think they will
remove it, nor do I think they should.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is still on your report. That is only
5 years ago. Making lake loan payments is a pretty big deal. Someone
lent you a bunch of money, and they expected prompt payments to get it
back. You let them down, which may not have seemed like a big deal to
you.

is for potential creditors to see what a risk you might be. They
don't care if it was because you were out of the country, traveling
with the circus or just spending too many evenings at happy hour. The
payments were late and should be reported. The good news is that I
think the earlier ones should be dropping off soon.
