Fantastic Fraud Protection at Bank of America

Back in July, I had done some shopping with some local area businesses using my bank card. The next day, a Sunday, I had come home from a closing shift at work to find an email announcing they had detected fraudulent activity on my account and had locked my card. A little agitated, I tried looking through my statements to see what they were talking about. I found nothing, but pulled up a number to call customer service. I called the number, was walked through the menus, before finally reaching a representative around 11 pm that Sunday night. We pulled up my account information and she went over my last several transactions until we found the fraudulent one: a $100,000 withdrawal linked to the BBB in California. The transaction was marked the day I had gone shopping, and was traced to one of the fives stores caught in the leaked credit card numbers breach in MA. Now that certainly didn't sound right (and fishy), so I confirmed that it was fraud and had the card closed off. The representative then told me to go to my bank where I opened my account and request a temp until my new card came in the mail.

The following Monday I went to the Oxford, MA branch and was seen not even two minutes after I walked through the door. I was issued my temp and was offered several options for preventing this from happening again. The Wednesday that week my new debit card arrived, not three days since I reported the incident.

So I want to praise BoA for their prompt, speedy service, and for their effective fraud detection program. I've only been banking there for 3 years but already feel like I've made a great choice.

That could have been a disaster! Glad to hear they were on the ball
with this and took good care of you.

So many times people come in here complaining that their cards are
"locked" and cannot be used because their bank sees transactions that
are out of the norm for the cardholder.

This is one case that shows how they were on the ball and while your
first reaction was one of anger I bet you are glad that they locked
your card out from usage.

Good to hear...good letter and great bank!

Excellent letter, and nice of you to take the time to write it. So
many complaints show up about credit cards, and even the steps
companies take to detect and combat fraud (rather odd). It is great
to see someone applaud a credit card bank for a change.
