Improvement in deli wait time would make all the difference!!

I was at your club in Taunton, MA yesterday, at approximately 10:45 AM. As a mother of four, I need to buy a lot of things in bulk, and visit this location at least 2-3 times every month. Your store is laid out well and is neat for the most part, so I usually don't have any trouble getting most of my shopping done quickly and easily. However, one thing that always seems to slow me down is the deli.
If I shop with my husband on the weekend, the deli is usually very busy, but one of us can do the shopping while the other waits. And most times when I shop by myself during the week, the wait is only two or three people. The problem is, there is only one person working the deli any time I have ever been there. Even at the local grocery store, there are always two or three deli workers. Don't get me wrong, the woman who is usually there during the week when I shop alone with the kids is incredible. I've never seen someone work so quickly and efficently, and despite how busy she is, she's always friendly and never gets worked up over the seemingly endless line.
Yesterday when I got in line, I was number 74, and the person being waited on was 67!! With seven people ahead of me, I waited close to half an hour in line. I was afraid I was going to have to abandon getting my lunch meats and cheeses for the week, because I had to get my kindergartener off the bus. I left the house allowing for enough time to get home, put away my groceries, feed my baby, make lunches, and THEN get my son off the bus. Instead I pulled into my driveway less than ten minutes before my son got home.
While I was in line, I was thinking that it would be great if you had a deli order kiosk like the one at Stop and Shop. If you haven't seen it, it's a touch screen where you order all your deli items, and it gives you a receipt with an order number so you can pick it up at the deli after you are done shopping. I saw a lot of other moms with kids while I was in line, and I'm sure they would all have loved to be doing their shopping while waiting for their meats to be prepared rather than standing in line. I think this would also take a lot of pressure of the folks that work at the deli.
Overall, I love shopping at your club, and the staff is always great. I hope you take this into consideration to make the experiences of all shoppers that much better!!!
Thanks for listening!

I personally love the kiosk, I use the deli one at my grocery store all the time.
I work for a large grocer and found it interesting the kiosks in general havn't gotten the usage that they expected them to when the put them in stores, even the deli ones. I'm a technology person so I love the convienece of using them, but I guess not everyone.

I go to 2 different BJ's in Jacksonville, FL, and no matter which one I go to I always end up waiting longest at the deli.

You should start buying your lunch meat prepackaged, I am sure a Wholesale club would sell it. It might cost a little more, but all the time you would save is worth it.

Um, this doesn't sound much different than any normal grocery store I have shopped at. Usually the wait is one or two, and occasionally it is 6 or 7!! (DOUBLE exclamation point for extra emphasis - twice as much)
The only difference is this is a wholesale club, where people get the obesity size of everything.
You make an interesting suggestion, but really, it is BJ's. They don't cater to emergency personnel who need to leave the building at a moment's notice.
Elaine: Well, I was just curious why you didn't use an exclamation point?
Jake: What are you talking about?
Elaine: See, right here you wrote "Myra had the baby", but you didn't use an exclamation point.
Jake: So?

Holy crap. Moms of lots of kids must have the organizational abilities of [insert some legendary multitasker here]!!!

This is a fantastic suggestion Julie. They don't even have to really hire another employee which they may want to avoid doing. A not so busy employee can come fill orders while it's a busy time without having to work that counter all day.
