Blockbuster Bait & Switch, Stealing From Customers

No late fees? "Oh, we didn't mean it, but we're not going to tell you that, even after a multi-million dollar advertising blitz telling you we don't have late fees."

In any other industry, that would be called BAIT AND SWITCH and would be the subject of prosecution.

And to top it all off, you stole the balance off the gift card I received for Christmas with a gift card policy that very few other companies have. Anything to make a buck, I suppose.

I've cancelled my account. I never want to have anything more to do with Blockbuster.

I'm just in awe of sheer mass of folks who seem to think that the 'No
Late Fees' thing means that you can keep the movie as long as you want
- forever even - and that's just dandy.
They DON'T have late fees! None! Nada!
But at some point that dust-covered copy of TURNER & HOOCH has to be
considered MIA.
It's REASONABLE for them to charge you full price for a movie that you
haven't returned after so much time has passed. It's called
RESTOCKING. They're losing money by not having that movie to rent
because YOU can't be bothered to get off your duff and return it!
While we're being brutally honest, I'd call it this theft as well.

To this day, I still don't get why this is so hard to comprehend.

And in addition, this is not bait and switch. That must be one of the
most overused accusations used by customers. Do you even know what it
means?

I worked for Blockbuster for 5 years. That was some time ago, but I
still remember imbeciles like yourself like it was yesterday. Nearly
every company has expiration dates on giftcards. I think it is only
illegal to do that in two states. (New Hampshire and California?) If
I remember correctly, the expiration date isnt even in fine print on
the thing. As for the no late fees, I dont understand what you are
complaining about. There are no late fees. You can keep the item for
up to 7 days late at no charge to you at all. At some point,
Blockbuster has to think that the item in question is not coming back,
so they charge the movie to you. You even receive phone calls
reminding you about this. You still have an additional 30 days to
return the item (and get a refund for the movie) and you will ONLY
incur a $1.25 restocking fee. This fee is in place because your
deadbeat ass couldnt watch a movie in the 2 weeks you probably had it,
and Blockbuster had to order a replacement copy. Would you rather
have it go back to the way it was before, when I worked there?
Keeping a movie a couple of weeks late could cost you up to $50.00,
under the new system its a $1.25 and customers are still not happy.
This store is probably happy to be losing a customer like yourself.
If anything they are losing money off of you because you kept an item
very late, and by not returning it, they cannot rent it out again.
Lemme guess, you're going to Hollywood Video? I used to love when
customers said that to me.

(end rant)

Didn't you read the fine print? I haven't ever been to Blockbuster,
but even *I* am aware of the exclusions mentioned in the fine print in
the ad campaign you mention.
