"game wait" times.

This isn’t really a complaint letter, more just an observation I guess.

We went for our third visit to the recently opened location in our area last night, we invited a friend who likes wings and spicy stuff to join us. Since it was Tuesday(.45 wing night) we knew it would probably be busy, we got there around 5:30. There were people waiting outside, not too unusual, but as we walked in a man was walking out, and he muttered “good luck” to us. Ok, a little odd but we figured he was having a bad day. I walked up to the hostess, only to be informed that they were on “game wait”. Which translated to the fact there was an NBA final game on, and the wait would be at least an hour to an hour and a half, and that was her best guess. People were hanging out at their tables watching the game, they didn’t think many would be leaving until the game was over. We choose not to wait and ended up at a nice local Italian place.

While we were waiting for our friend outside to tell her about the wait, we saw several people walk in and then back out, many grumbling. I do understand you are basically a sports bar, this is a busy night normally and it was a big game. But I also saw a lot of disgruntled people, and since you are pretty new to our area, our state really, I have to think some were first timers who left with a bad taste. (Pun intended). I don’t really have any suggestions, short of having table time limits or order minimums, and if I did have one of the tables I wouldn’t like that. But I did want to bring this up. For the record, the hostess was very polite and apologetic, and she wasn’t having an easy time.

I think it might make sense to have designated areas on nights like
this. Since people are coming to watch the game, they should all be
coming around the same time. Maybe institute a minimum dollar amount
order to get a table. Everyone else that is just drinking a beer or
two gets a seat at the bar. Make the bar a first come first served
type thing and once the seats are gone, they're gone. If you're not
ordering a meal, that person has to wait until a seat clears.

If they are turning customers away, they are doing just fine.

What on earth is the point of your complaint, though? What do you
want them to do about it? Would YOU like to be told that it's time
for you to leave your table so someone else can eat? No, I didn't
think so.
