sales misrepresentation/poor customer service

In February of this year (2008) I contacted Charter to add the new phone service to my existing account. I was given a total price of $97.97 per month for expanded basic tv, internet , and phone service, before tax. I recieved my first bill and it is for $127.97 Before tax, increased by $30.00 over what I contracted for. Also the tax on my bill went from $ 0.96 to $ 29.94, a total of $157.91, this is OUTRAGEOUS! My wife called customer service and they gave her a one time "sales misrepresentation" credit of $84.00. Let me tell you that I will soon be cancelling ALL of my service with charter if this is not corrected now. I will not call customer service again and spend almost two hours trying to get this straightened out, my time is too valuable to be lied to again.

Reduce my bill to what I was told it would be ($97.97 per month), revamp your billing statement so the average customer can understand the charges they are expected to pay.

FYI Since I wrote Planet Feedback and Charter, I've had pretty good
luck with my charges, thank you! When I called to cancel their
services I was made a offer that seemed pretty reasonable. It seems
that when I cancelled the phone service my bill would go from $143 per
month, back to what I originally paid for cable&internet, or about $74
per month. Do the math and their 29.99 phone service actually costs
69.00 a month! You can't find this out because they "BUNDLE" it in
with the internet, and don't break down or separate the charges. Why
do they make their billing so hard to understand? Anyways I went with
Vonage phone now and it works beautifull, and only cost 31.00 a
month, tax incl., to boot. Did writing PF help, or is charter so messed
up they can't get it right? Who knows

Depending on what state you are in, the cable TV and internet services
are not taxed (or have a low tax) but the phone service is taxed. It
also sounds like you are being billed for pro-rated service for one
month and your bill should be lower next month.

Charter cannot control the taxes in your state and/or county.
