TOTAL LACK OF GOOD BUSINESS ETHICS AND/OR CUSTOMER SERVICE

So, here we are, 4 years later, almost to the day. I wrote to you regarding your lack of concern regarding expansion of high speed internet to my area. I wrote my last letter to you on June 8, 2006, and you still have not extended service to my address. I have also learned recently that one of my neighbors was seeking information about getting service from you. He and his next door neighbor share the same pole. His next door neighbor has service from you, yet you have denied service to him and will not send anyone to check it out unless he PAYS for a service call. This is unreasonable, to say the least. This neighbor is roughly 1/8 of a mile from my house. Your only response to my inquiries (I have made several over the past 4 years) is that we cannot get service unless we PAY several thousand dollars for you to run cable to our address. What makes you think people can afford such things, especially in the current economy? And even if I COULD afford it, why would I do that? I wouldn't, and won't, ever PAY a company that kind of money for something they should have done in the first place. And since there's not much competition around here, you overcharge people as well. Your prices are ridiculously high, so it's unlikely that even if you DID extend service, most of us couldn't afford it.
You would make your money back in very little time if you actually INVESTED IN YOUR BUSINESS. There are 5 homes in this area who cannot get high speed service. You do the math. And a reasonable price would be a good idea too. In the bigger cities, DSL or cable internet service costs as little at $29.99 a month...and that's not a promotional rate!

Weird, I check out "East Burke, Vermont" on google maps and it sure looks populated enough that I would think they have cable. Interstate highway, airport, etc. I suspect you live in the rural part, up in the hills/mountains, which would explain why you can't get high speed internet.
Can't you get satellite TV and get high speed access that way?

"Good business ethics" require a company to be responsible to its shareholders. To make sure that the shareholders, the people who own stock, don't lose their investment.
Somebody has to pay to run the cable to your house. Clearly, the cable company has decided that this is not a good investment for its shareholders.
How much would you charge to dig a trench 1/8 of a mile long, to your house? For fun, let's say you actually own the proper equipment and have the proper licenses. So those are free for you.
How much would the permits cost you? Surveys? City/county/township requirements? Easements? Digging up the neighbors' land?
At this point, all you've done is dug the trench. Now you have to pay for the expertise to attach the fiber-optic cable to each end. And for that fiber-optic cable itself.
I know that 1/8 of a mile seems a short distance. It's 220 yards, though, or 660 feet. How much do you think 660 feet of this cable costs?

What in the world does this have to do with business ethics? They have made a decision they think is right for their business. Let's say $30 a month, times 5. That's $150 a month. $1800 a year. Not much money when you consider the outlay to put it in, and the overhead to provide you the service.
On one hand you talk about how much money that is, when it's you paying, on the other you dismiss the amount when it's them.

Is there a mandate that the cable company install cable at a cost of several thousands of dollars to service possibly 5 homes? Did they fail to abide by a contract with society?
It sounds like they HAVE done the math, and decided that it doesn't make sense. "especially in the current economy" applies to companies too, not just consumers.
You state you and your neighbors probably wouldn't be able to afford Charter's service even if it were available, which weakens your argument rather substantially.
I pay $14.99 a month for DSL, and that isn't promotional either.
