Rude, discourteous customer service at the local level

Posted Wed February 14, 2007 6:06 pm, by Sherri B. written to Cingular Wireless (now ATT Mobility)

Bowling Green Ky. One young man at the Cingular Store on Campbell Lane is beyond rude to customers -- unless they are young and flirty. Customer service apparently doesn't exist with this young man. Perhaps he should be locked in a back room instead of on the floor where he can offend customers. Not only did he do this to me twice. He has done this to my husband a couple of times and another couple who are friends of ours. He wasn't just having a bad day! I spoke with the manager and she assured me that she would talk with him about his attitude.

FIRE HIM!!

curious minds need to know:

"Not only did he do this to me twice. He has done this to my husband a
couple of times and another couple who are friends of ours"

what did he do??? I can try to imagine..but, I doubt he did something
too too terribly wrong..when you KEEP going there!!!

Tell me, Sherri.... when did this 'young man' dump you?

I was OK with this letter until the FIRE HIM!! part. YOU are out of
line to say he needs to be fired. Maybe a simple coaching will do the
check

First, you need to calm down. Second, you need to realise that if you
write a letter in a nice tone and not make yourself look like an
uneducated jerk, you are much more likely to get results from your
complaint.

Aside from the fact that you and your circle of family and friends
spend way too much time at the cell phone store...

I think this letter is rude.

This unnamed young man flirts with young and flirty women and husbands
of women who aren't? Should they hire an "equal opportunity flirter"?

He should be locked in a back room....and what do you suppose be done
to him????

FIRE HIM!
They should give him a RAISE and a PROMOTION for keeping the customers
coming in!!

I don't get why you are at a Cingular store so often. Do you go in
and pay your bill every month versus mailing it in? Or is your cell
phone breaking all of the time?

Maybe wear some hot pants next time so you get flirted with and your
problems will be solved!

Tell me you didn't just advocate locking someone in a room.

*closes eyes*

*takes a deep breath*

Can you be more specific about how this individual is rude? And can I
just ask why you have to go into the Cingular store so often? Isn't
there another one you can frequent?

What's wrong, does he not flirt with you? Sounds to me like you have a
personal grievance with this person and are trying to cause trouble.

If you have an actual legitimate complaint with this person, you need
to specify exactly what he did that is so "beyond rude". You might
also provide some identifying information other than "one young man".
And suggesting that he "be locked in a back room" is completely
inappropriate.

I promise you, they won't fire him because you wrote this letter.

First of all, you say "he has done this" - done what, exactly?

Second, you spoke to a manager and were assured the young man would be
spoken to. Now you're writing a letter to CORPORATE and insisting
this unnamed individual lose his livelihood?

What a bitch.

You say you have spoken with the manager. Did you then give her a
chance to actually address and fix the problem? Or did you
immediately fire off an angry letter to Cingular?

If the former, what steps, if any, did the manager take? Was your
next visit to the Cingular store different? Did the young man in
question seem to have changed his attitude at least slightly, or did
it seem to have not affected him? Do you have reason to believe that
the manager didn't or will not speak to him?

If the latter, you need to relax and let the manager of the store do
her job. If on your next visit the young man in question is either
not there or shows improvement, this letter will have been a waste of
time for all involved. If he hasn't changed his attitude, you will be
in the position of writing another letter to Cingular, this time from
a position of weakened credibility.

In either event, you have no business demanding the firing of anyone
that you yourself do not employ. While it doesn't sound like this
young man is especially good at his job, it may be that this is his
first sales job and he doesn't know exactly how to do it yet. Perhaps
with additional training (and reputable cell phone stores provide
ongoing training for as long as you work there) he could improve.
Regardless, this is frankly not your call to make, and it makes your
letter look like an axe-grinder.

As an aside, I have to wonder about one thing. When I worked in a
cell phone store, we had a lot of people that would come in all the
time, and I never understood why. Not that I wasn't pleased that they
apparently liked us, but it always seemed like a big waste of
everyone's time for them to come in to make little changes to their
accounts that could easily have been done over the phone or online.
If you hate going to this store so much, try calling customer service
or checking out the Cingular website. I bet you could do a lot of
your account business from there.

You don't say exactly what he did. You say flirty but be more
specific.

And if you already spoke to a manager, why oh why did you waste time
writing a letter on here?
