Dissatisfied Comcast Customer

Well, I go to pay my Comcast bill today, and find that my price has been raised, once again. I started off paying $80 a month for Digital Cable with DVR and Broadband Internet. For some reason, it was raised a couple of months ago to $88. This month it's $113. The Digital Cable has been great so far, but I'm pretty much fed up with the Internet. It goes out ALL THE TIME. I've called many many times and nobody is ever willing to help me in any way. Anyway, about today's bill, I called and was informed that the bill is higher because my 6-month internet promotion is over. Okay, that's fair. Then I asked if I could reduce my bill by taking off some channels, more specifically the Premier package, like HBO and such. The lady then informed me that she can't, because that would void my TV promotion, and I would have to pay an additional $40. So I'm not made aware that when my TV promotion is over in August 2009, that I'm going to have ANOTHER $40 tacked on to the bill. Definitely not happy. I've already ordered AT&T DSL service, and as soon as I get it set up on Feb. 16, I'm dropping Comcast Broadband. I'm about to cancel the TV too, as soon as I figure out what my alternatives are, and what will be the cheapest. So far I'm definitely not happy with Comcast, because of the billing and because of the poor internet service.

I would like Comcast to allow me to lower my bill without charging me more. I don't need HBO and all those other channels. All I want are the digital starter channels and my DVR. Everything else I could care less about. Why am I being forced to pay such high prices when there are cheaper alternatives out there? I'm asking Comcast to lower my price, or else they can lose a customer.

You could get stuck with a hefty cancellation fee from Comcast. You
should really look into that.

I've done excatly what you have done...I swithched to AT&T DSL, cut my
home phone all together and have Direct TV...I'm saving about 70.00 a
month doing this...when I made the switch, I made sure to ask about
promotional cost...AT&T and DirectTV assured me the prices I have are
the prieces they are going to bo...

Change your packages after your special offers expire, or take your
business elsewhere.

What I think is really sad is that Comcast, just like Time Warner (my
provider) offers new customers a better deal than customers who have
been with them for years. It's been proven time and time again, that
it is cheaper to keep a customer than to go get a new one. I wish
that more companies would learn that valuable lesson.

When I signed up for a yearlong promo cost for my DSL, about 3 months
before it ended, I got a notice from the phone company, informing me
that my rate would be changing soon. While it was really nice of them
to send me that notice, it wasn't required. I knew that I had signed
up in January, and that my special pricing should be expiring at the
first of the year.

You should have kept track of when each promotion ended. We responded
to a special offer from a local provider of Internet and telephone.
At first, we were just going to use their phone promotion. But we
found out that our ISP wouldn't work with the new phone
company--something about proprietary lines. So a few weeks later, we
switched to the ISP as well.

Each promotion ran for a different length of time, and began on a
different date. But every bill clearly indicated when each promotion
ended. In addition, I kept the mailing with all of my notes on
it(date called, whom I talked to, any other info)until each rate went
up.

I'm pretty sure Comcast, over your subscription time, has given you
plenty of information about when your promotion ends. If not, you can
probably go back over your checking account to find out how long
you've been paying the lower rate. This will help you figure out when
the promos end.

It sounds like your real gripe here is about the service, not the
billing.

Depending on what you watch a free alternative might be watching on
Hulu online, lots of shows on there for free.

I don't think you're being forced at all. You simply didn't read the
fine print when you signed up or you'd have known the rates quoted to
you were promotional deals and would eventually expire.

I hate to tell you this, but when you cancel your Cable Internet
you'll most likely be charged an Early Termination Fee of about $200.
Again, it's in the fine print when you sign up.

It really pays to read all that stuff before signing up for things.
Can save you a lot of money and hassles! Good luck.

I've never met a cable company that has a ETF, but maybe Comcast does. N/T by Chris M Sun February 8, 2009 @ 9:23 AM

I would ditch Comcast all together and go with Dish + DSL. I got rid
of my cable recently because of escalating monthly bills. I am very
happy being back on Dish!
