Gas prices

We love Costco for the most part but we have one complaint: we used to buy all of our gas at Costco because it was the best price around. It isn't any more. I wonder why that is? If you wanted to offer the best price, the app "Gas Buddy" would tell you all you need to know to adjust your prices. You must know that, so I'm gathering you must not want to be competitive in our market (45246). Am I right?
Offer the lowest gas price in our 45246 (Cincinnati, north) market.

Costco will not always be the lowest gas prices, especially when prices are rising fast. There are two reasons. FIRST: Because of their huge volume, Costco receives multiple truck loads per day, each at the latest rising price. Others, down the street, are still selling last week's gas and have yet to receive the next tanker. Thus, others prices will seem lower for a bit. On the other hand, when prices are falling, and for the same reason, Costco's prices may be 15-20 cents lower than the neighboring dealers. SECOND: Many C-Stores (convenience stores) will sell their gas at cost as a drawing card, making it all up with the soda, coffee, and snack sales, e.g. selling pop for $1 that costs them 10 cents to pour. IN ADDITION: Note that Costco's gas is like their steaks, Choice and Prime, not "select" and lower. That applies to their gas also as they only supply the highest quality gasoline, quality controlled daily, while the local C-store down the street is selling whatever they can get their hands on and haven't cleaned their filters in months.

someone would end up paying you to take it. There can only be one "lowest price".

I wonder whether Costco figures it has a somewhat captive audience/market for its gas. Depending on the price difference and my available time, I'd pay a little more for gas to avoid driving somewhere else.
