Write a Letter to this Company | Rate this Company
On the basis of discrimination against minors they make kids at our school line up 2 at at a time with a 3 minute time limit!
I have sent emails and mailed them I suggest you do the same and fight this injustice!
If they are still doing this by the start of this school year I will single handedly organize petitions and boycotts. Also stand in front on the door until I am arrested I will do this combined with writing and petitioning. We must learn to unite they cant stop us enetering that store if we stick together.
Your Friend ,
Charles Brown
p.s.
No graffiting or shoplifting from them it will make us as a group appear undisplined and weak.Only constructive non-violent means can we trample the injustice based on age! Please post this bulletin and Message your friends let them know Charles Brown and you will not blindly buy there products without there respect.
We spend thousands of dollars there evey year we give those employees there there pay checks and we as a organized group can take them away!
Please dont hesitate to call me or email me
Make an apology and stop enforcing this biased rule!

"Single handedly organize pettitions and boycotts." Interesting.
There's nothing in CVS that an average kid can't buy in less than three minutes. Look at it as a challenge!
. There gonna respond as soon as they get this!
How are you expecting to pay for this massive organized protest? Will if float if you're only allowed on their prperty three minutes or less? Do you know the lawsuit you're thinking of filing costs money?
I do admire your convictions though
I think Bobby Brown once said "If you fall for anything, you'll stand for nothing" I'm not sure, I'm THINKING he once said that, so don't quote me on it, 'kay? But reading your letter, it really does apply.

Something you may want to consider.......stores are private property and they have every right to limit entry to any age group they feel could be a problem. My guess is this particular CVS has had problems with large groups of minors in their store and this is their solution to the problem.
While you may not like it,it is indeed the store's right to use this rule.

Oh come on guys - SHENANIGANS already!
Clearly this is a troll - "Charlie Brown" is gonna file suit against CVS because they limit the number of kids/teens in the store?
Apparently he should have paid a little closer attention in Mrs. Donovan's English class!
and since when are kids spending THOUSANDS of dollars in a drugstore? Oh! Is THAT why this letter is so bad??
Charlie Brown, you're a BLOCKHEAD!

Anyone else hearing that "wah wah wah" noises that the adults used to make? :P
Seriously, ya, you may spend thousands of dollars a year there (MAYBE) but apparently they're also LOSING enough money from shoplifting that its still a gain for them if they restrict your shopping time. Your money is not enough to pay their paychecks and you can not take them away. Best of luck trying though. I think its good for teenagers to be passionate about rights. Why dont you focus that energy on ACTUAL injustices in the world? Protest for/against a political movement, an oppressed people. Apathy is dangerous, but so is blind passion for meaningless causes.

I think instead of putting all of your efforts towards this protest you should focus on your schooling.
As other posters' have said, you may be organizing something non-violent, but it is a protest on private property and that is considered trespassing. Trespassing can get you arrested and lead you to have a criminal record. It will affect you if you are trying to get into a good college and if you are applying for scholarships and grants.
Yes it sucks that you are being treated like this but they have every right to refuse you service.

I suspect, despite the lack of details in this letter, that a CVS store has had a problem with teenager and shoplifting in the past.
Just keep in mind that they can reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, just as they also reserve the right to ban anyone from their store that they wish.

I actually enjoyed reading this letter.
To begin with, I don't think it reasonable to make fun of a name. That a child's game from elementary school. I actually think the name is pretty cool.
Charles,
I remember when I was in elementary school. There was a 7-11 next door and they did the same thing. Once 3:15 came, children would line up at the door. Two were allowed in at a time unless with an adult. It was the only way they could maintain order and protect themselves from shoplifting. You need to remember that, although you may be honest, others may not. They do not want so many customers, children or not, in their store at one time that they cannot manage to oversee them.
As a suggestion to your letter, you need to write this letter to the intended recipient. If this is a store, you should offer details as to the exact location you're speaking of. Also, when using the word "there" and showing ownership, such as "there paycheck" or "there products" the correct spelling is "their". You use the spelling in the way you've presented it when speaking of a place like, "going there".

Focus on your schoolwork (spelling and grammar would be a good start) and stop wasting your time with this nonsense. You are a minor, which means you have few rights and fewer responsibilities. That's called life until you grow up. For now, follow CVS's rules and behave like a responsible citizen and you may be surprised that you will be treated respectfully in kind.

i kind of hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as long as you are a minor, your rights are very limited. i don't necessarily believe this is fair, but, in the words of Bruce Hornsby, that's just the way it is. it's no fun to be powerless, but that is really your situation right now. i've always found that it's always the 2 percent that make the 98 percent look bad. based on just a few kids behavior, all kids are judged and that stinks. most kids are great, but you get lumped in with the few that aren't. bide your time, don't do anything to land yourself in legal trouble and realize your day will come. that day will be after you turn 18.

Dollar Tree used to do something similar, too until our state cracked down on the stores that were doing it. I used to take my girls with me shopping, and divide up the list to shorten our time out and avoid melted ice cream, etc. Winco( where we get groceries) and the Dollar tree are almost next to each other in this particular mall, along with Payless shoes, etc. I gave my then 13 and 16 year olds a list along with $15, and sent them into the Dollar Tree to get the items we wanted there. They each had a purse with their own money, also. They came back into Winco in less than 10 minutes very upset, saying that the manager had followed them around and made a comment to a cashier that "he needed her to watch the register so he could follow these 2 girls around." I finished up my shopping at Winco and loaded the groceries into the van and then proceeded down to the Dollar Tree.
"Farouk" the manager said he "is tired of teenagers stealing from him, and he has to watch them like a hawk". I showed him the list and money, along with their tiny purses, and told him I was calling corporate, that that was ridiculous. They didn't come in with backpacks, they had money and list in hand, and I wasn't going to have them accused of stealing.
Corporate for Dollar Tree said this is NOT their policy and called a week later to apologize to me and to the girls. "Farouk" is now the manager of the least desireable location in their area and I notice in the few times I have run into that location that he only targets smaller children left unattended.
I think that this CVS policy is not a particularly welcoming one, especially to teens who have jobs and money to spend, but it is the stores right to do this in this way. I think perhaps if the letter writer had cleaned up the grammar and spelling and politely explained why they felt the policy was unfair and asked for reconsideration, maybe this would have been taken more seriously.

Since you're in school, here's a little education:
(1) There is no law against age discrimination against children or teens. You cannot file a legal suit on these grounds and win.
(2) If you want to fight the powers, you need to show how mature and responsible you are. This letter does not reflect a teen that's very mature. Want to be taken seriously? A letter like this is not the way. In fact, when I see a letter like this, I'm pretty sure that whatever this rules is... is there for a darn good reason. Kids that think they are grow-up, but are not.
(3) I'm all for non-violent protest. However, what you're talking about is trespassing. You seem to realize that this will get you arrested. Think: do you really want an arrest on your record? Do you really want colleges to know that you staged a poorly executed protest? Do you really want to have to deal with your PARENTS?
If you feel passionately about this, what you need to do is (a) write a letter where you use proper grammar and spelling, (b) write a letter that clearly explains your perspective, without resorting to threats or yelling. Make a clear statement of what you want and how you know that if you get your way, whatever CVS fears is not going to happen.
Once you've written a "grown-up" letter, you need to decide if it's worth the trouble to stage a sit-in. You will be arrested, your parents will be mad, and you'll have PROVEN that the stores are right to have restrictive rules.

Except for the 3 minute rule (and that's a minor point) I'm fully supportive of CVS doing this. Many convenience stores by schools have the same 2 student rule. Trust me, you'll get arrested fast. The cops will show up the first time and give you a warning. The 2nd time you'll be arrested. They CAN stop you and they WILL. On Monday, when they read your letter, they'll all have a nice laugh.

I echo the sentiments of the first poster. Any kid who can't tell the difference between "there" and "their" (something my school taught in fourth grade, by the way) should stay out of CVS and spend more time on schoolwork.

The store has a right to limit the number and type of customers that it allows in the store at any given time. It is a privately owned business. I am a mother of two teens. When they travel in packs, even with supervision, they are a handful. I can't imagine what a large group of unsupervised teens do.
You should have the mods remove your phone number from this email. You should also spend more time in school or studying and less time in CVS.
