I Dont Want Dell To Send Me A Condescending Response--Just Change Their Policy!

I want to express my anger over your due date and online payment acceptance date practices. If I try to make a payment on 2/2 on an account that is due 2/3, there is NO REASON that it needs to post on 2/6!!! Other than the fact that you can then charge me a late charge of course, or force me to pay an additional $10 to avoid the late charge. This is horrible treatment of your customers! I pay 100% of my bills online and I have never, EVER seen any other company that won't accept a payment until 4 days after it is paid online, especially when there are no weekend days or holidays involved. I know you probably don't care and won't do anything to change this, but I wanted you to know that I will never be buying a Dell product again. I have no interest in doing business with a company that goes out of its way to rip off its customers. If my due date is 2/3 I should be able to make a payment a day early and not have to pay more to keep it from being late! How ludicrous! Don't bother sending me some pithy, condescending response. I'm not interested.
Change your payment policies to accept online payments until the due date without charging more for the privilege!

Yep, I was angry when I wrote this and that's all I wanted to get across. I pay about 20 different bills online and this is the only one that has this policy, so maybe I'm just lucky with the others. What gets me is that I can pay $10 to have my payment post the same day, but they can't post it the next day for free. Makes no sense. If it's impossible, it's impossible whether you pay $10 or not.
I didn't want any results really, nor did I expect any. Dell is a huge company and isn't likely to change it's policies because I'm unhappy with them. I guess I just needed to get it off my chest and that's what I did.
I did pay the account off though, with part of my tax refund, and I won't ever buy a Dell product again. And I won't even get started on the interest rate. I can't believe it's legal.

Hmmm I don't know about this letter. Whenever I make an online payment it warns me that the payment may not post right away. I know the letter writer is complaining about 4 days here but lets say she made the payment after 4 o clock. Usuaully that is the point where the payment carries over into the next day. If it had posted on the 4th or 5th it still would have been late.
It would be nice if payments were posted right away but they do need processing time. Making the payment the day before (and we don't even know what time) is cutting it too close.

I actually agree with Eric's responce. Including the tone of your letter.
Your point MAY be valid, but the overall tone of the letter is terrible and is not like to obtain the result you may want.
You also did not give much detail about your payment. Are you paying online directly to Dell, or are you paying online through a third party service? If one was to pay directly to Dell, online, showing the payment was made a day early, a late charge would be easy to dispute.

The tone of your letter may cause it not to be taken seriously, but that's too bad, because your point is excellent. There is no technical reason for the delay you describe. There can be no reason for it other than a desire to spark the consequences of a late payment, for financial reasons. You do the public a favor by exposing this very hostile practice.

I believe the letter writer has a good point. I have made electronic payments for years, and normally the payment posts on the same or next day. In this instance, the payment was placed in a Thursday - yet won't post until Monday? This is not a weekend issue at all.
Much has been said about Dell Financial Services... little of it good. Sadly the letter writer went too far and expressed too much anger for this letter to be taken seriously.

You say that there were no weekend days or holidays involved. You may have been talking about another time, buth if you posted the payment on Thursday, Feb 2 when it was due Friday Feb 3, but they won't credit it until Monday, Feb 6, then there are weekend days involved. I have run into this same problem with one of my credit cards. I got bit the first time with a late fee, but I learned my lesson, and now I make sure it is paid early.

Some companies use computer systems that do not update the same day. Dell's may have this type of payment system.
If you know a payment will not post the same day you make it, I suggest submitting it a few days before it's due. That's not an unreasonable suggestion to make and is a good idea whether making payments online or through regular mail.
