My husband bought be a laptop computer from dell with dell preferred credit card 2 years ago. The computer caught o fire prior to that, the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I called about the burning issues several times but got no where. The side where the cd goes in came off. Computers are cheaply made but you pay big bucks for them. When the computer caught on fireonly because i was under warrenty did they send me a refurbished one. They told me it was a better laptop. It was the same one. The same problems and now I'm not under warrenty. The mouse dosen't work, the computer gets very hot on the bottom to where it burns you. The keyboard is starting not to work and the cd compartment once again fell apart.. They will do nothing for this problem and yet we have to pay this rideculous amout of money where not even half goes toward the payment. i have called and emailed several time regarding this but they do not want to listen. They just try to get you to buy another computer.. NO WAY WOULD I EVER PURCHASE A DELL EVER AGAIN ...
My husband has been paying on this account for 4 years not 1 late payment and they will not even lower the finace rate. They told me It's against Dell's rules. They no longer lower finace rates!seriously? Are you kidding me? only thing they did do which was recently was take off a 50 dollar finace charge. Please they can lower the rate but they just suck customers in to buy their cheap computers and have them pay for life. They don't care about their customers one bit and I am furious that they can charge the amount they do for a piece of crap that didn't work right from te beginning.
I want them to lower the finace rate. i know the can. They did to start workin with their customers instead of against them. i also want them to fix the computer because enough has been paid in finace charges. No late fees just finace charges where they can fix or give me another one.

Can you refinance the debt on a lower interest credit card?
They of course can lower the finance charges but this is what Dell is, greedy.
They outsource their manufacturing and tech support, I would never buy from them.

You say he bought the unit 2 years ago, but that he's been paying on it for 4?
And this statement, "Computers are cheaply made but you pay big bucks for them."
Um, yeah! That's why you don't finance equipment for four years that will be obsolete in 18 mos!
I have never heard of them lowering the interest rate on those kinds of accounts (and my fiance' has one for his XPS that is about 9 mos. from being paid off!). I hate to say, but you were told EVERYTHING you were getting into when you signed up. It's not revolving credit, it's an installment loan, just like a car. You can't demand they re-do the whole thing just because you're tired of paying on it.
Next time, don't do that.....

Most times when you get a computer repaired they repair it and send it back.
Although I am confused... you say it didn't work when you got it back so you just let it go?
and even then... it doesn't actually negate a legal debt.

If it takes 4+ years to pay off a *computer* debt, you bought a computer you couldn't afford.

If the computer is under warranty, it should definitely be repaired. Dell home computers aren't exactly known for being top-notch quality. Sad, because Dell used to be a pretty good company to deal with. Now they only seem to want the big corporate accounts.
As for the finance charges, it's sort of the agreement you made with them when you bought the computer. It's kind of hard to make the argument that you agreed to the terms so you could get a computer on finance terms, but now object to those terms.
