Thanks for FORCING us to buy Vista-Only machines....

I have been buying Dell products for a bunch of years now. Last year I purchased a laptop and thought I would get Windows Vista. It was the worst possible mistake. I ending up going through a huge hassle of sending it back and waiting for a refund. By then Dell had stopped selling computers with XP. They finally were forced into selling XP's again after huge amounts of complaints came in. Then even after all that, they started selling a very limited number of XP machines. So all I could buy was an Intel. Intel cost twice as much as the cheaper, more dependable AMD systems. The 2 AMD Dell systems that I have owned worked great. I knew I shouldn't have bought Intel, but I had no other choice, because I just don't trust any other manufacturers. Just like every Intel system I have owned in the past ten years, it failed on me today. Too far past the pathetic warranty date. Dell has completely, 100% sold us customers out. They offer a few XP machines, but again, Intel, overpriced, trash. It is sad that Microsoft, once so powerful, now weakened by a horrible OS in the form of Vista, has forced manufacturers to sell Vista-ONLY systems. Microsoft spent years, upon years making excuses as to why Vista wasn't released sooner. All the time knowing the OS was junk. Then they finally released Vista. Just to have PC Mag rate it the worst invention of 2007. It is slow, the security features are annoying, the DRM Music and Movie rights cause so many users to have those files just lockup on Third-Party players. It is just horrible. Now what do I do? Buy another piece of junk Dell (H*LL NO). Buy an Apple XP machine (OVERPRICED). Build a machine of my own? (AND DEAL WILL DRIVER ISSUES, COSTLY XP OS, ECT). I could use some suggestions. Being forced to buy Vista is like being sold a 2009 truck, with every mechanical problem possible, and then being told the 2008 model will never be sold again. This problem is even worse though. Their is only a handfull of decent manufacturers left. Everything else is mass produced Chinese garbage.

For me to have such loyalty for Dell. Dell Laptop's, MP3 Ditty, LCD Televisions, many Dell products. And now for those days to be over. It is pretty sad to me.
How can a company sell the customers out in favor of an OS that everyone knows is worthless? I know Microsoft is a 300Billion dollar company, but Dell is no weakling. Why did you sell us out Dell, and leave customers like myself stuck? No more cheaply priced Dell AMD XP machines I guess.... Soon the entire market will be Vista, and I will be forced to go with Apple, or whoever else. The computer shop told me the board is dead, which has been the problem with every single Intel system. And NO it is not my fault. My boards have been cooled and kept clean. No virus's, no spyware. So I don't want to hear how it is my fault.

So thanks Dell for selling us out. Thanks for leaving me with not many options left. Thanks for making XP system cost so much. Thanks for forcing us to buy Vista, even though your company has released statements where you admitted Vista is a horrible OS. It was so nice while it lasted, but I now have no other choice but to leave.

Good bye Dell....
Russ

And I don't want to hear your judgments and bashings. I get so sick of having everyone judge my posts, my words, and the problems I have been through. If you want to help, then please leave helpful info. If your just going to tell me, "Maybe it's your fault, did you ever think of that?", "I haven't been through these problems.", "Dell doesn't have to change their practices just because your not happy.", "Maybe if you were more polite then Dell would help you more.", "I love Vista! I think your just not capable of using a computer!", "I found a Dell AMD XP system; your just not trying hard enough.", I think your just making a mountain out of a molehill. Have you tried contacting Dell?", "Apple computers don't cost all that much more then PC's.", "Your complaints are dead wrong!". These types comments get old really, really fast. Keep in mind, you don't know anything about me. So judging my problem is pointless and rude.

A few weeks ago Microsoft announced that they were no longer going to
sell Windows XP and that they would only support Vista in the future.
It's like being punched in the face and having your Platinum Rolex
watch taken. Then when your given a new one, it is made of plastic and
has is missing a button. But the company says "tough ****! This is all
we have now!" We know the Platinum Rolex was better, but we control
most of this market, so go cry in the dark! Because WE DON'T CARE!"

So even though Dell said they would still sell some XP machines, that
was before this news release.

I always thought the word "UPGRADE" meant "To be better then before."
Well, It was nice while it lasted..... Bye XP....

I was contacted by Dell today and told that they have now started
selling Optiplex, AMD, XP systems again. The woman told me after Dell
started receiving complaints, suggestions and such, they decided to
change their stance.
I'm still not 100% sure about this. Microsoft has so much power and
they could easily force Dell to stop selling XP. Microsoft could stop
supporting XP tomorrow. Stop updating device drivers. Stop making OS
upgrades. They could kill XP at any point in time.
Vista is truly a horrible, horrible OS but Microsoft wasted so much
money on it that they are not going to stop pushing the OS down our
throats.

Hopefully they realize that they made a giant mistake in making Vista
and that it would be in their interest to let it die. I have not read
anything from anyone that Vista is a great OS for them.

So Microsoft, Let Vista die out like WinME and 2003. focus on XP. And
please don't force companies to sell Vista-Only machines anymore.
Unless you want customers to leave in droves to Apple OS and Linux.

It is great news though that Dell changed their mind!

Russell S.,

This is a clasic example of why a business letter should not be
written at 2:14AM.

If you expect to get any postive attention and results I suggest that
you re-pen this letter.

I called Dell and wanted to buy a Windows 95 machine and can you
believe they don't sell them anymore????

No one is judging or bashing you or being pointless and rude if they
disagree. They only leave comments based on their own opinions and
experiences. PFB has a "help with letters" feature that can offer
advice on how to write a letter that would be more prone to just
getting helpful advice.

Dell isn't the only player in the personal computer field, and the
truth is not every company can please every customer possible. The net
is full of great sites that review various systems by price point and
Operating System.

No one forced you to do anything. You can always run a computer on
Linux, or you can buy a Mac.

You have all the answers, so you must already know how to extricate
yourself from this situation. This is a pointless exercise.

If all you wanted to do is complain, a website such as
dellsupportsucks or ihatedell.net or something such as that would be
more appropriate. This site is for people trying to get resolutions
to their problems.

"And I don't want to hear your judgments and bashings. I get so sick
of having everyone judge my posts, my words, and the problems I have
been through."

Then don't make your letters public. Simple.

It's a matter of opinion by ♥Venice♥ Sun March 16, 2008 @ 5:26 PM

I agree with Venice here maybe you should be a little more friendly in
your plea for help. And I don't think you should put words in
people's mouths. This is a public forum so you kind of have to take
everything with a grain of salt here. Everyone's opinions are going
to be different. I'm not sure what all the bad hype about Vista is.
I just bought a new computer with an AMD processor and it runs on
Vista but has the XP programs installed. I haven't had any problems
at all. I have had terrible problems with Dell and their customer
service in general, but that's just me. I opted to avoid the dell
this time and I love my little HP. I hope you find a solution. Good
luck.

Russell,

I suggest you try http://wheretobuy.amd.com/index.html if you haven't
tried that already.

You can search for retailers who sell computers with AMD processors
and Windows XP. It looks like it could be helpful in your search for a
good computer!

Hope this helps you!

If you don't want judgements or bashings then don't choose to make
your letter public. Simple, isn't it?

by Kelshir Posted Sat March 15, 2008 @ 9:33 AM

First, if you do not want to hear judgments or bashings don't post in
a public forum.

Second, it might not be Dell's fault at all. Unless you know the
contractual agreements between Dell and Microsoft there is no way to
know if it is Dells decision or Microsoft saying "If you sell XP you
sell this way and this way only".

Third, if you really hate Vista that much, get an AMD system and a
copy of XP and install it yourself, or pay someone too.

Fourth, maybe if you were more polite you might be able to get
farther.

I've experienced more than my share of computer related frustration,
so I understand where you're coming from. Your letter, however, is
just so negative, that I don't really know what you hope to gain from
it. If this is a plea for help from Dell and/or the PFB community, I
don't think you're going about it the right way. Maybe it would help
if you were a little less defensive and a little more, oh I don't
know... friendly?
