Delta lost a servicman's luggage-AGAIN!

I am writing to inform you of how unsatisfied I am with your airline service. My fiance and I had decided to only fly through your company to take advantage of your SkyMiles program. He takes monthly trips to Lexington Kentucky from Tampa Florida for military drill duty. For the second trip in a row his luggage has been lost by your staff. What you may not realize is he needs to report to drill in less than 24hrs and is without any of his belongings including his needed uniform. Due to recent security increases he checked everything he brought except his cell phone and wallet. This is unacceptable. He is serving this country and now he will be punished because your company cannot deliver 2 pieces of luggage to it's proper destination-and this is the second time this has happened!
Delta needs to compinsate my fiance in some form or we will be taking our business elsewhere.

I'm not sure if this attitude 'they did it to ME' is paranoid or simply self-centered. The OP seems to believe that her fiancee's luggage was lost on purpose, simply because he is in the service. Do you think that the airport is employing out of work hippies who are trying to 'give peace a chance' by stealing uniforms?
If your fiancee's luggage was the only luggage lost, then you might have a dandy conspiracy theory there. As it is, you have bupkis. Mistakes happen, they happen often especially these days.
Ask around, get creative, quiz the airline officials and others in your fiancee's unit for other options besides checking his uniform every trip.

I agree. He's/She's doing a very important job at great sacrifice and with certain benefits and percs that other companies don't offer. Could he carry on the basic necessities? The uniform and undies etc? I don't know because I don't travel much anymore.
And it's nice to know that parents siblings and spouses and spouses to be are stepping up to the plate oh his behalf. The last time my mom did that for me was in high school. I forgot to take my lunch that day. She got a ride to the school, interrupted the class and the teacher handed me my lunch. I'm still not over the embarassment.(well actually I am, so ignore that statement) I'm sure your relative is enjoying the light hearted ribbing from his/her co- service members...I hope they scrounged toghether some acceptable uniform before inspection call. Or at least has a note from the family explaining why he/she is missing his/her uniform.
Anyway, the laws of probablility states that the possiblility luggage will be lost grows exponentially with the number of times one travels.
So perhaps have an emergency uniform sent ahead and ready for him in case of such a situation? Or perhaps the Services can charter private jets (I don't think that's feasable or cost effective but it would be nice) for service people? I don't think that's TOO much to ask.
Unfortuantely "Lost luggage" is the great equalizer...(it cuts across all racial, socio economic, and proffessional or occupational barriers with no exceptions for armed forces or creed or handicap or any other variables).
Anyway thanks for sharing and thanks to your relative for his/her service to the country as a whole. I, for one, appreciate it immensely.
Good Luck to Everyone!!!

It's a shame that a military man can't write his own letter and that his mom & fiancee have to do it for him.
Your fiance should be writing this letter and the fact that he's military has *nothing* to do with the problem at hand - that his luggage is lost. Are you implying it would be less important if I was on a business trip & my luggage was lost? I don't think so.
If Delta can't get their act together he should fly someone else. Period.
I also don't believe your fiance deserves any "compinsation" but he'll probably get some since his mommy and girlfriend are fighting his battle for him.

I know he has a very important job and needs his things but the airlines do lose a lot of luggage. I hope they can find it for him. Sometimes they do.
I've been putting more pertinent things into carry on luggage for fear of my bags disappearing but now you can't even do that because they will throw out the shampoo and whatever else.
