YUKON MEN show needs to be stopped!!!

Posted Thu September 27, 2012 4:43 pm, by lisa b. written to dicovery channel yukon man

I am disgusted and tramatized by the show that is aired on TV called Yukon Man. It is shown on discovery channel friday nights and it was on sunday also. I am appauled by the animal cruelty and murder that is shown on tv such as trapping linx, beavers, bears in there dens are hunted and killed and then skinned and hung like a trophy. THis is poaching and it should be stopped and never be shown on TV. I was in tears for these innocent animals who are trapped and have to eat there own limbs off and then bleed to death. THe guys on this show seem to have no feelings for animals at all they even left there sled dogs out there in the snow so they could go across a iced water pond. My family and i are very disgusted and this show is continually being shown for entertainment and this is not ok at all i am a animal right advocate and killing, trapping and maming animals for fur or meat for a soprt is not right. I hope someone can do something because when i flip through the channels i dont want to see animals skinned. this is not taken lightly with most people.

I would like the yukon man show to never be aired again and they need to be investigated on the cruelty to animals for a sport and there trophys. These animals are in there own environment and these men hunt and prey on them for a sport and ruin everything these animals have found natural to them for years. Killing bears and other wild animals is not ok. Please investigate this cruelty somehow im reallyy disturbed this is on tv especially since children can see this

Well I just watched one show and that cured me of watching any more.
Forget about the hunting, trapping and all that which is done for
survival. I was in total disbelief that anyone could take their old
and aging sled dog who was obviously in pain and go out into the
wilderness and shoot them and then leave them there. I thought your
sled dogs were like family. WOW! Is that what you do with people when
they are dying? With all the sled dogs up there, don't you people have
any vet to take care of your animals that would need medical
attention. Your dogs help you to survive in that environment and give
you their all. I would think you could end their life in a better way
than that
Shame on you!

So don't watch it. Do you watch just so you can find something to
whine about. The animals trapped and killed are done under license
during seasons for such things. What kind of couch potatoes sit around
watching shows they hate until they cry.
Some people can and do live on the land. Unlike city p*****. Go buy
you a nice steak or pull a carrot up by its roots.

by buckrub69 Posted Mon February 29, 2016 @ 12:49 AM

You don't have to watch the damn show. I believe at the beginning of
the show they tell you about it not being for everyone. So here's a
news flash don't watch it. The world would be a better place if you
just shut your pie hole and crawled back under the rock you came out
of ASSHOLE! There is no poaching going on here just survival if they
do not get game during the scheduled hunting season then they are out
of luck. They have top compensate and adapt to overcome the simple
things in life you take for granted. Do you think it is humane at the
slaughter houses where your beef comes from. If you ever seen where a
hot dog comes from you would never eat another on e guaranteed. Now I
am getting off track. People like you piss me off. Why don't you get
your facts straight before you go shooting your mouth off again.

by Valkrider Posted Tue February 2, 2016 @ 5:47 AM

You sound like a politician in training. Think you should dictate how
other people live and make a living. That is the attitude of an idiot,
plain and simple. The best and only control you are entitled to is "DO
NOT WATCH THE SHOW". Bug off and go talk to someone who cares what a
moron thinks. NO ONE. Go get lost in an alley or something. At
least there are no bears there and probably a 7-11 around the corner
when you get tired and hungry.

by Northern_star Posted Sun December 27, 2015 @ 3:34 AM

Ok first of all its "men" not "man. If you're going to express an
opinion you should confirm details like that.

Now to address this topic. I was born into a world that for me beef,
pork, chicken, hotdogs.....( I'm sure you get it) was something you
had as a treat when you went to "the city". Going to the city was
something we did maybe once a year. The rest of the time if you needed
anything you had to travel over an hour away to a small town that had
1 grocery store (it has 4 rows) , a drug store that served as a coffee
shop, post office, Drs office (when one came) and a movie rental
place. All that in a building most southern people have shops bigger
than. The town I'm from has a tiny gas station which doubles as the
only place to buy oil if you can afford it. We don't have a motel or
store. There's no place to grab a coffee or go eat. When we eat out it
means we're going to eat outside or at another home. Well water is our
water and outhouses are the normal. Some use indoor toilets buttttt
you empty them yourself. Can you imagine living like that?? Would you
? Have you ever been anywhere that's so cold your skin aches the min
the air hits it? Have you ever either yourself or worse with kids felt
hunger? Real hunger? I'm going to guess not if your opinion on
survival is this way. Imagine you are camping out in the beautiful
forests this country has to offer. Picture your family happy and
having a great time. Now imagine what you'd feel if for some reason
you were stuck there. Too far to walk, too far for reception and def
too far to assume others will show up soon. A week later your family
is hungry. Children crying and looking to you for food. What would you
do? Would you allow them to starve? Would you tell them you're sorry
but killing anything is wrong? Could you really do it? At night when
they are freezing would you make a fire? Or let them be cold? As a
human even you have a survival instinct that's inside of you. You may
not agree with it or even accept that you possess it but it's there.
If we didn't have the animalistic drive to survive in us we as humans
wouldn't be here. With that said unless you value unrealistic opinion
over human life there would come a breaking point where you'd do
things worse than what offends you on that show to save your family.

Hunting, trapping and fishing for us is not a sport or a hobby. It's
not fueled by greed or gluttony but by the will to live. We eat what
we need to kill and we share to make sure everyone not only in our
homes but family and community are taken care of. The furs taken are
used to supply needed items and what is not used is sold to be able to
buy needed items. I'm sure in you're life you've done something that
has made you feel proud and you enjoyed that feeling. For people like
us we get to experience that every single day.

We live the true organic lifestyle. Just because our food isn't pre
packaged and it isn't mass produced does not mean we are monsters.
Instead of judging my people off a tv show take the time to visit up
here and experience the beauty that our planet and lifestyle we live.
I could write endlessly of the wonderful experiences I've had growing
up like this but I won't lol I guess I'd just like to than everyone
who understands and supports this lifestyle.

Ps. We view you're style of living as as crazy as you see ours but the
exception is ....... We take the time to experience yours.

Are you crazy most of these people on this show are native Alaskans
they have lived there for thousands of years and because you live in
story book land doesn't mean you can stop a show!! It's their way of
living do you think they have Walmart and Burger King on the corner
,have you ever even been to Alaska? I am sure you haven't by your
totally ignorance we where here first go back to Europe and complain.
Also the show is one of the top shows on TV so most people do not
disapprove as you state! Idiot

yukon men is a nasty show. not only is showing the killing of trapped
wolves, with a gun bad but the latest episode shows the owner of his
sled dog taking his sick old, sled dog out in the woods with all the
other team dogs and shooting him to death i found this traumatic
because the guy said it was a curse to have doctors and other people
care for his sick sled dog.
i wouldn't shoot my sick family memebers why not just let him live
and when he gets really sick put him down. he could have been only
temporaritly sick.

by stubbe Posted Mon September 28, 2015 @ 11:54 PM

You are worried about your children watching people in alaska Kill
animals for their survival? what about the children who live in
alaska, should they starve to death because their parents would not
be allowed to kill animals to eat. Yes God put animals on the earth
for us to eat. Do you want to send your money up there so they can
buy food from the grocery store, and where they get that food from
people who raise these animals in capivity and they are mean to the
animals to baby ones I have watched on TV what people do to them It
is sick. Alaskans don't just kill animals for their skin they eat
them for their food.
tell you what right now 1 tomato is $5.00 1 gallon of milk $15.00
and case of pepsi $30.00 in the small towns. it's a little cheaper in
bigger towns. I lived there in 1967 in a very small town 250 miles
north of fairbanks only way to get there is by boat or plane and that
is still the only way to get there I still have friends there and
they are nothing like what you try to say they are. I really wish
people would not talk against something when they have no knowledge of
what they are talking about . Keep all the Alaska reality shows
going. i love to watch them

Mountain Men (History Channel) needs to be stopped as well...cruel
trapping....killing a Lynx.....why are they showcasing this cruelty to
animals on TV? We don't need animal fur in this day and age! We can
create perfectly good (probably better) synthetic fur!!! STOP WITH THE
TRAPPING!!!! Legal hunting by ethical hunters who do not want the
animal to suffer is different (although I still don't particularly
DEFINITELY BE STOPPED...not just for the TV show but STOPPED PERIOD!

Didn't you read the WARNING before the show???
Go back to chanting the fairy-tale of global-warming!

I will kill the stray-cat we feed via slow painful death of poison !
Ground up glass shards in deer meat I toss out! Let it cry out in

You are an uneducated individual. Read the bible. Animals were put on
this earth for our survival as food. What's cruel is modern day
methods of raising animals to be shipped to our grocery stores. Keep
in mind, these families on the show Yukon Men do not have grocery
stores like your spoiled self does. They hunt to survive! I find your
comments amusing and humorous because what it all boils down to is how
SPOILED you and our generation has become. I bet if you were removed
from your current lifestyle and placed in a region harboring negative
degree temperatures and no walmart or foodlion to be found, you would
hunt and eat to survive. You shouldn't speak of things you know
nothing about. You look ncredibly ignorant by doing so. And FYI, if
you don't like the show then DONT WATCH IT! Duhhh! It's people like
you who try to control others because you think your views are more
important and right than others. If you don't want others to tell you
how to live your life, then close your mouth about how others live
theirs. Everyone is entitled to live the way they choose to live. God
made us free to make our own choices while here on earth. So stop
ranting and raving and trying to take other people's freedom away from
them. Go live your own life and leave the judging and decisions to

call in murder and say u were crying lmfao, then don't watch the show
you pussy these people live off the land and need to grow or kill
their own food to survive. So tell me the difference between what they
do and a slaughter house where they hang a cow upside down by their
hind legs and slit their throat to kill them. Please just stick to

the population who totally disagree with your crazy pussy ass.

Yukon men is the best show I have saw in years on TV, they are
living my dream. I love to see them go hunting -trapping an all the
things most people one earth has done for centuries to sustain
clothing an food for there families, I learned a lot about fish wheel
fishing an love to see the cabins that they have an go to for summer
fishing. This has to be the best show ever about real life in
Alaska. I wish they would show more guns an types of ammo used to
dispatch there game. I love the show keep up the good work. Greg

by spencer j. Posted Mon November 25, 2013 @ 10:44 PM

Lisa B.,

What planet are you from? These men do not hunt or trap for sport -
they do so to SURVIVE! Think about it... What's the alternative in
this geographically remote part of the country? Do you really think
they can go down to the local grocery store and pick up a gallon of
milk, dozen eggs, or sliced deli meat. This is the way it's been done
for hundreds of years. And if you don't like it, then I suggest you
turn the channel. If you weren't so narrow minded, maybe you would
notice that there are, in fact, "life lessons" and well grounded
principles that these Yukon Men teach their young sons. I'm appalled
at your narrow mindedness, and lack of regard for other people's
culture and way of life.

by t m. Posted Mon August 12, 2013 @ 1:53 PM

I'm sure you lie in a very small world. These people to do this to
survive in a place where there aren't many jobs and the cost of food
and fuel is many times greater than your city. It disgust me to know
how badly city people are ruining or world and the environment we live
in with by burning crude oil and other fuels to make their daily lives
easy. I am sure you are not a meat eater since you think its cruel to
kill something to eat. Or do you have a butcher do your dirty work and
then buy it at your local store.

by cjmo75 Posted Sat July 13, 2013 @ 10:00 PM

You need to get over it buddy. You are one of those people that is so
wrapped up in their little world that they don't realize that their
are many different cultures and civilizations out there and not
everyone can jump in their gas-guzzling SUV and run to Wal-Mart 6
times a day.

I love animals too but I have no problem with killing them for
sustenance like they do on Yukon Men. Their way of life is centuries
old and was around way before you and your PETA buddies.

Are you that naive and arrogant to think that your way of life is the
only one there is? Open your eyes and learn a little about other
people instead of being so wrapped in yourself.

by Angel1234 Posted Sat June 8, 2013 @ 12:05 PM

How would people survive without eating meat how would people that
live in the cold survive without having the fur. For one that's how we
have lived since the beginning of time. If you or your family got
stuck in the cold you sure would want those furs and you sure would
want that meat. You need to stop judging, move on don't turn to the

by Saskman Posted Sat June 1, 2013 @ 12:06 AM

They are not killing for sport they are traping and hunting to
survive. Did you really watch this show????
Did you see the town they live in???
Did you see a supermarket on ever street corner??
How can you judge them when you probably live in or close to a city
where you can go buy your meat that was brutally gutted and skinned
before it was even close to being dead!!
If you don't like the show don't watch it, it is as simple as that.
There are very very few jobs in the far north and people have to hunt
fish and trap to live.
What gives you the right to judge them?

by TonyZ Posted Fri May 17, 2013 @ 7:44 AM

I too am disgusted in Yukon Men. I cannot understand why someone would
hunt bear with an AR15 with its piddly little 5.56 cartridge. They
should be using something with some real horsepower like a 338 WM as a
minimum. Bears can take some real stopping and a 5.56 is a sure way to
get a bear annoyed and endanger the hunters life. Humans can be so
careless and my greatest fear is that one of the loved characters in
the show will be harmed. I think the NRAA should step in here and show
some leadership on the ethics of dispatching game with adequate power
factors. Most of the firearms shown seem to be of adequate caliber,
but an AR15? Really needs to be addressed.
The other thing that is annoying is that the shows viewing season is
so short. This is great education for all children of how the real
world works.

people survive in that part of the country. Have you actually seen
more than one episode or just a few minutes of one? This is the way
people eat and feed their families. They do not have the amenities
that most of us have, have you seen their houses? They do not have a
9-5 job. I agree with not tolerating animal cruelty but , are native
americans bad people because they used some of these practices to
survive?. Think !! Before you speak. I truly hope you're a true
vegetarian or a vegan otherwise your comments have no validation. By
the way, please know when to use their and there, and its not Yukon

by skippydoo Posted Fri May 3, 2013 @ 12:57 PM

Your kidding right? You big pansy ass uninformed wimp! My God, this is
how they survive, literally! Murder? Trapping for sport? Trapped
animals chewing their own limbs off? That's B.S. Sounds like you
watched it long enough to draw your own liberal conclusions because
none of that happened or was portrayed. They LEGALLY trap and hunt to
SURVIVE! Poaching? Really? Are you insane? How could they illegally
poach on a nationally televised show? And to suggest this nonsense
about intentional cruelty to their own sled dogs? These are working
dogs that they love like family members, watch the show and stop with
the uninformed dramatic sensationalized crap. What do you think your
ancestors did before all the creature comforts? They trapped, hunted,
scraped and scratched to make a few bucks, to eat and SURVIVE! Then
again, maybe your forefathers relied on others to do the dirty work
and that blood line and gene pool has clearly made it down to your
sorry ass. This is one of the last places on the planet that these bad
ass survivors can live a subsistence lifestyle, live off the land and
do what they have to to make it. They work hard all day and night,
depending on the season, engage and rough it through the harsh
elements, bust it out and SURVIVE! I'll bet your a vegetarian right?
Allot of tofu? or maybe your one of those hypocrites that wont hunt
but will gladly go to the grocery store in your Prius to get 5 pounds
of ground chuck? That would be even worse. Grow a set and stop the
whining. This is one of the best shows on the air right now and one of
my personal favorites and guess what? I'm not even a hunter. You said
your afraid your children will see it? Why don't you monitor what they
watch or change the channel? Stop pussifying these kids while your all
sitting around eating mcnuggets or a "turkey burger" produced from
caged poultry farming, (real humane). It's better that they pop and
drop a moose quickly, producing enough food for a family of 4-5 for
the whole winter than pack animals in troughs, with the head clamped
down and force fed their whole life just so you can sit around and eat
the same type of food these Yukon men busted their collective asses to
get. Get a clue

I WISH I had the courage and knowledge to survive like the men and
women on "Yukon Men". How do you think our pioneering ancestors
survived before the industrial revolution? Just a hint, there wasn't
a Super Wal-Mart. There is no animal cruelty in the show. They are in
full compliance with Alaska State Fish and Game regulations. They are
NOT trophy hunters. When Courtney shot her first moose her husband
cut into the antlers to signify they are sustenance hunters. This
means they kill to eat because they eat to live. If you really cared
about the animals you would also care about the humans they sustain.
The Lord put animals on the Earth for man. "[People] will be masters
over all life--the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the
livestock, wild animals, and small animals" ( Gen 1:26, NLT). I am a
coward because I don't have the heart to kill the animals I eat (i.e.
chicken, turkey, pork, steak)... If you eat meat you buy off a shelf,
you are also coward.

Your completely out of touch with reality and a fool. I adore
animals, I've been raised in the country and have had horses, donkeys,
birds, cats, chickens, tortoise dogs etc... My animals are treated
like royalty. I've rescued many animals and I condemn any kind of ill
treatment of them, I have gotten in the faces of grown men and talked
all kinds of shit as a teenage girl by myself when I've witnessed
abuse. You on the other hand, I'm absolutely positive are a coward who
would sit silent if you were to actually first hand be in the same
situation. How do I know? If you are too fucking stupid to realize
these guys don't get off on killing animals but do it to survive then
what can anybody say to you. Where do u get your meat? From the store,
where the animals that were killed to supply you lived a life of
constant pain, abuse and a torturous death in a factory somewhere,
probably never saw the light of day or ate a blade of grass. Ill agree
life is rough for the dogs, but life is also rough for the people.
These are real men surviving off the land and they always give thanks
to the animals that gave them substance. Unlike the dumb fucks that
live in cities that think the food they eat is somehow pure cause they
want it to be. Your a joke get a clue dipshit. An Obama voter no doubt

You are really stupid. Open your eyes and ears. They don't poach it's
in season. I am so sick of people like you say shit like this. You
need to grow up. You don't know these people so who are you to judge.
I have hunted my whole life and can't stand people like you. Go in the
woods and see how long you can survive. I bet you can't last ten
minutes with out your cell phone and GPS. Please grow up and look at
the facts before you judge. For the sake of everybody on this site
please don't post anything again thanks.

Stop being a whiny little bitch. These pleaple live in the wilds thay
do not poach animals,Thay are all lincened trappers,There for thay are
doing it legaly, and thay hunt only in hunting sesson. As far as the
sled dogs,Thay are conditioned for the weather thay are not house dogs
thay are working dogs.So all I have to say is grow up and stop

this has become 1 of my fav shows.. U r an idiot.

by coolhand66 Posted Sun January 27, 2013 @ 5:28 PM

your to soft ware you live right now going to a big market and buying
food, some people in this world live off the land and have to kill
bamby and tumper to live. people out thare have hot houses too but to
put food on the table day after day you have to go out and kill.
Killing bears and other wild animals is OK. children need to see that
not all people use markets to get food.

by miles H. Posted Mon November 19, 2012 @ 12:33 AM

Yeah your a moron It actually is the only show that I know of that
actually goes in depth to real survival and how these family's that
come from generations of people that lived in northern alaska and are
the few that actually know how to survive in the north. If you took
away these people there would be no such thing as the tradition of
sled dogs and surviving in the wild and not depending on others to
live. Can you survive on your own and make success from nothing. Can
you find a way to get food gas or water on your own with no car or
build a house. No your a dumb dependent on the government and if the
power went out tomorrow you wouldn't know what to do and you wouldnt
last without someones help. One day things will happen and you will
have no choice but to go back to the old ways of real survival. When
it comes to the point where you have to grow your own meat because
there is a shortage like in world war two and we started raising
bunnies because there was no meat you will quickly understand. If you
just look back 100 years ago how much more things are complex and
twisted who is right and who is wrong clearly the older we get in
society the worse things get as a whole. We are eating GMO foods
processed chemically injected meats that are fed animal by products
when they are grazers. So hat part of society is the problem? If
your scarred to skin a animal and think that that is sick you have
some problems because i can tell you look back to your great
grandparents and beyond and they will be telling you you need help
because they knew more about how to make a life for them selves then
you and probably knew more about what hard work is. We were all
hunters before gathers and history proves that! You have to hunt for
your food and if you dont call your self a animal is some kind of way
then what are you because you either kill or be killed if there was no
killing by the man then you would have been food for the bear and be
living in a gated kennel so you dont get eaten and you would starve to
death because you will always have to go out and search for food.
Your printed money and how you value the dollar is really what is sick
because it has no value and if you can explain where it got its value
from i would love to hear it. The world is a lot bigger then you and
takes a lot more space then you think for each person to have the
space to survive on this planet. And if you think that a desk job or
being a lawyer has a important purpose today thats a joke because when
it comes down to who will survive and be the last man standing will be
the strong who know how to survive and be the leaders again.
Technology is the destruction of man because it makes us depend on
something that isnt natural. Living in the wild can be the most eye
opening experience into what we have come from and how twisted we live
today. If you took off your man made jacket and i threw it into the
fire and sent you north you wouldnt survive for a day unless a hunter
or naive helped you and so your insulting man kind when you think you
have the right to live in this country when man that built this place
before paved the way with farming hunting for meat and clothes and
true quality and didnt live on man made products that couldn't be
recycled back into the earth it came from. You are the toxic waist of
the destruction to man kind and have given earth the right to smite
you back to the earth you came from.

by zajda11 Posted Wed November 14, 2012 @ 2:48 AM

Your a joke! None of those animals are killed for sport and trophy.
I'm sure it's easier for you to judge when you probably sit in a comfy
suburban home with 5 grocery stores within a kilometer. The show is on
at 10:00 pm so if you have young kids watching that your a bad mother.
Stop lying, some people wanna what it's like to have to live off land
and earn your meal.

by dikotomii Posted Tue October 23, 2012 @ 8:17 AM

You don't want to see people killing animals for their food but you
use animal products throughout your life. You might be a tree-hugger
right now but you have eaten meet before and have worn leather or put
on make-up, eaten eggs and have used soap, glue and other items made
from animals.. You don't like the sight of these animals being killed
or skinned but you didn't have a problem using these things when you
don't have to see it. I do have a cure for you though; TURN THE
It's easy for you to criticize these people for their way of life
while you drive your ass to the supermarket for your wheat grass and
sticks for supper. I swear to the sky itself that if I were in front
of you I would rip the head off of a chicken, de-gut it, pluck it and
begin to roast the damned thing in front of your eyes. You are a
coward and full of cognitive dissonance. Keep lying to yourself to
accrue a personal sense of righteousness. This might be the only thing
you are good at.

*blink* although I agree with you... by PepperElf Tue October 23, 2012 @ 11:17 AM

It would help you to understand the reasons behind
hunting/trapping/fishing for your own food after you google Rural
Alaska Food Prices. Once you see that shopping at the local village
store is NOT an option for most Indians and Eskimos who live in
Tanana, Alaska, then you might understand that necessitates taking
wild game. Hunting to the local Native peoples is not a "sport" as in
the lower 48 states; it is a means of putting meat on the table. The
Eskimos and Indians have been doing this on this continent for 15,000
years now and haven't depleted the game populations at all. It is the
overhunting/overfishing since 1492 that has adversely affected the
wild game.

If you feel the local Natives should leave their village life and
"assimilate" into the cities, then the white business owners would
need to start hiring those Natives for city jobs. That is NOT
happening; Natives don't even get interviewed for jobs that you whites
get hired for. Sad fact for Native Americans in America.

If you feel your way of life is less "savage", perhaps you should go
to flickr.com and look up cattle and poultry overcrowding. The
Natives in Alaska don't keep animals for months or years in such
putrid conditions before harvesting them. Your local supermarket is
full of "innocent animals" all packaged neatly for your consumption.

The Natives in Alaska are NOT trophy hunters. You will never see a
mounted animal head in a Native household like the Great White
Hunter's household. The reason for trapping for money is to buy much
needed supplies such as medicines/clothing/sugar/flour/rice/vegetable
seeds/tools/etc. No one is getting rich trapping. Indian Health
Service only covers so much; Natives still have to pay for dental or
eyeglasses. I am Koyukon Athabascan Indian; my last pair of
eyeglasses cost $379 and my last dental bill was $220.

I agree with you completely. I have always spoken out against the
torture of trapping animals, especially the beautiful predators. It's
seen as a huge violation, legal and otherwise, to import furs from the
spotted cats elsewhere in the world, but we are supposed to ignore the
torture and killing of our native wild cats? These yukon men should
have finished grade school and learned to read. Then maybe they could
get a real job to support themselves instead of stealing from nature.
By the way, I am not talking about Native Americans, if that is their
only option.

"get a real job" ROFL... just because you look down on them doesn't mean their job isn't real by PepperElf Wed October 3, 2012 @ 2:54 PM

I hate to say, but this really isn't a suburban neighborhood where you
can just run down to the local WalMart or Piggly Wiggly and buy
dinner. This is a pretty rugged area and these people are hunting and
trapping for survival, not just for the fun of it.

But to counter your arugment - people here in Cleveland complained
about shooting the sweet little deers (which the locals sure didn't
think they were so sweet!) in the Metroparks and the population got
completely out of control. Add to that the fact that suburbia is
stretching further and further into rural areas and you have a problem
on your hands.

And sometimes it simply comes down to a matter of safety. Yes, it's
nice to feel for these "poor, helpless" animals, but I hate to point
out the obvious: NOT keeping populations in check causes even GREATER

But even if it was such a neighborhood, this would still be perfectly acceptable by PepperElf Mon October 1, 2012 @ 5:28 PM

Actually Several Eskimo tribes are allowed to hunt and trap animals
that non-eskimos cant. They have been doing it for several hundred
years. Its not for sport or for fun, its for survival.

As for sled dogs they are at home in the snow. There is no cruelty.

If you don't like it change the channel!

by T N. Posted Sat September 29, 2012 @ 10:15 PM

Sled dogs are designed to be outside in the snow, just saying. If
anything, many sled dogs are actually uncomfortable inside. They dig
holes in the snow to keep warm. They've been doing it for hundreds of
years. I doubt the show is advocating poaching. There are hunting
seasons for all of the animals mentioned above.

by batmoody Posted Sat September 29, 2012 @ 5:44 PM

No reason to go as far as being traumatized by a TV show.

Just change the channel.

by billt Posted Sat September 29, 2012 @ 12:58 PM

When I was raised, my father taught me that killing animals was for
food only. I watched this show now that you brought everybodys
attention to it. I saw a lot of yummy FOOD in this show

by PepperElf Posted Fri September 28, 2012 @ 5:04 PM

This is positive on so many levels

1) Hunting lets people be self-sufficient. You aren't relying on the
grocery store to provide you meat, or the clothing store for food.
You are a PRODUCER vs just a CONSUMER.

This also means if the prices of food go up, you can still provide for
your family.

2) Hunters provide a service to the government by controlling wildlife
populations. And they PAY to do this.

If they didn't exist then the government would have to fund outrageous
and stupid ecology plans - at taxpayer expense! - to do the same
thing hunters are already doing.

3) Many hunters even donate meat to food banks, helping to support the
poor at no cost to taxpayers.

4) In fact, wildlife population is actually doing BETTER with
hunting-based management. What? How can that be? Because unchecked
growth results in overconsumption of limited food supplies, which
means nature will kill off the excess via starvation.

I dunno about you but condemning an animal to starve to death seems a
lot crueler than killing it quickly for food.

by fairywithfangs Posted Fri September 28, 2012 @ 8:38 AM

Do you know where the Yukon is? I would google it for you but it's
early and I'm lazy.

They are not killing for sport. They are killing for food. For pelts.
For survival in most cases. This isn't animal cruelty - this is what
life is like when there isn't a supermarket near by.

Killing animals for their meat is not the same as killing for "sport"

I love animals myself, however hunting in the north is a way of life.
That is their food, their clothing, their energy. Every last bit of
those animals are used in one way, shape or form. You can't raise cows
in the Arctic, and you cannot rely on air deliveries all year long
when the weather gets bad.

The animal hides are used as well.
You cannot just pop out to the local shop for some steaks or salad
fixings. Life is different in the north. They are not just killing for
the "fun" of it. They need it to survive.

lisa b.,

My bet is there are more people and groups watching that film being
filmed than one might guess.

I'm no expert but hunting rules up there are probably different than
down here when you are talking personal consumption.

That TLC Show I saw last night might be an alternative..Here comes
Honey Boo-Boo. :')
