Progressive Insurance taught me this lesson. Never EVER allow a company to have access to your checking acount. Let me say that again: NEVER EVER ALLOW A COMPANY TO HAVE UNLIMITED ACCESS TO YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT!
I used Progressive as my auto insurance provider when I first moved to GA (2001) and stupidly gave them my checking account number to do a auto debit to pay my insurance. The rep told me that I would get a bill BEFORE there was a debit to my account, so I could make sure that the money was there. She even gave me a date that the debit would be on. Low and behold, she was wrong about the date and I NEVER got a paper bill. They withdrew the money and thankfully I had plenty of money in the account to insure that no problems happend, but what if I had not of? I called Progessive and had them cancel the auto debit and asked that I recieve a paper bill from that point forward and I would send them the money.

Why did you give them a debit card/bank account? That is your own stupidity! I worked for DishNetwork, and I am sure Directv's cancellation fees work the same, if you would have read the contract you signed, it gives them the right to take out the cancellation fee out of whatever account you give them. Did you think they wanted your bank account information up front for no reason? You should have used a creditcard so you could dispute the charge if you don't agree, but you would not get anywhere there either, because they WERE authorized to take it out you were just too stupid to read what you were signing. And why are you bringing up your pregancy? That has NOTHING to do with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Usually, a cable company doenst charge a cancellation fee. Not that I have ever seen anyway. Also, I don't thin Direct TV has anything on the site abouta fee. Glad you got your money though.

" I am unable to even pay for my gas at the gas station. I am now having to pay a $28 fee to my bank everytime a pending transaction clears my account that there is no money in there to cover."
So... do you just drive off after getting gas?
Sorry that losing $347 is huge hardship for you -- it would be to most people. I imagine that the paperwork you initially signed gave them permission to take the cancellation fee directly out of your account because so many people wouldn't PAY that last bill.
Admit it, you're pretty broke, can't afford gas, you're bouncing checks... you wouldn't have paid the cancellation fee if it just were sent to you via a regular bill in the mail.

WELL REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU PEOPLE THINK, IF IT HAPPENED TO YOU, YOU WOULD COMPLAIN TO, SO GIVE IT UP. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT I WAS RIGHT AND I HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED FOR THE FEES.
BY THE WAY YES I DID READ THE FORM THAT I SIGNED WHEN THE INSTALLER CAME OUT TO MY HOUSE TO INSTALL THE SERVICE THERE WAS NOTHING ON IT ABOUT A TWO YEAR AGREEMENT AND A FEE. THAT WAS PART OF WHY I FOUGHT THIS SO MUCH.

I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS A 2 YEAR AGREEMENT! THAT IS MY POINT. THERE WAS NO CONTRACT ABOUT HOW I PAID. I PAID ONLINE EVERY MONTH AFTER RECEIVING MY STATEMENT. I WAS INFORMED THAT AFTER CANCELLING SERVICE THEY JUST CHARGE ANY REMAINING AMOUNT TO THE CARD THAT WAS USED WHEN SERVICE WAS ACTIVATED. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I OWE THEM ANYTHING. THEY NEED TO MAKE THEIR TERMS MORE AWARE. IF YOU NOTICE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM.
