Not recycling your satelite dishes when customers leave the service is illogical and very anti-environmentally friendly. Imagine how much space is used by the landfill just in Satelite dishes alone... This is not a wise company decision. Re-view and reverse this decision. I am sure I am not the only customer who would be more than willing to return the dish on our own time and with our own vehicle. Please consider this and revisit your company policy.

Remember when hearing rumors always check the source and look it up online.

I don't know how many dishes are going into landfills. I think they generally just get left on the roof, next to the new dish.

Sustainability
Here at DISH, we make environmentally conscious decisions that both reduce our environmental footprint and our costs, which allows us to keep prices low for our customers.
We recycle about 500,000 pounds of material such as styrofoam, batteries, circuit boards and cardboard per week, about 57,200 pounds of foam and 728,000 pounds of batteries per year, and our Equipment Remanufacturing Department eliminates approximately 1,820 trash hauls to the landfill each year, which is equivalent to about $1 million dollars in cost savings.
