Unacceptable Service from DirectTV

Hello,

I just moved from Santa Fe, NM to Bellingham, WA and setup a change of service and was given the date of Feb 3, 2008 from 8 am to 12 pm as the install date. I called once before moving to confirm and then also got the automated call confirming my appt. As you may know, Feb. 3rd is Super Bowl Sunday. Having had my installation confirmed by DirecTV, I went ahead and invited some friends out to watch the SuperBowl and went out and bought about 150 dollars of Food/beverage/etc.

At 10 am on my installation date, I got a call stating my installation would not occur. This is unacceptable service. After confirming the date twice I should not be receiving a call the day of installation saying it isn't going to happen. I now have to change plans for not only myself, but about 15 other people and I have a kitchen full of perishable food which I would not have purchased otherwise. This is very close to a deal breaker for me with DirecTV as this kind of behavior is arrogant and irresponsible.

I should be getting a substantial credit on my bill due to this. I believe a 3 month credit would be sufficient. DirecTV has directly caused me to lose a couple hundred dollars as well as hardship many other people by their inability to keep an appointment which had been confirmed THREE times. Unacceptable service for an NFL ticket/superfan and premium channel subscriber.

I didnt know you needed direct tv to pick up the super bowl. You
could have gotten it with an antenna with no problem, it was only on
FOX. It wasnt on a "NFL ticket/superfan" channel.

Hmm....when did you purchase the DirecTV in the first place?? I can
see your frustration if the package was bought a few weeks before the
Super Bowl, but if the actual purchase/original date set was done 10
days or less before Feb 3rd, I am not surprised you got the service
you did.

Super Bowl Sunday purchases on big ticket items like electronics is
akin to the Valentine's Day or Christmas Rush..the closer to the event
you get, the more the demand for the items you want...and perhaps the
longer wait for the installation.

You have to keep in mind too that you have to allow for time for
installation itself. I had an experience last Saturday where we were
going to get phone and internet service from our current cable
provider. We ended up cancelling the installation due to the guy
claiming we needed to have the cable re-wired and would have been more
trouble than its worth. Those sorts of things take time and may delay
installations.

In short, next time allow plenty of time for the installation to take
place, perhaps making the purchase a few weeks in advance.

First you say your appointment was confirmed twice.....see your second
paragraph. And then you state it was confirmed three times, see
closing paragraph. Which is it?

Hey...........how are they responsible for your food bill? Put it in
the fridge. It will keep. I see why you're not a happy camper, but
really. It's only a football game.

Would they normally come out on a Sunday in the first place? I'm just
wondering. I don't think our cable company would, but even if they
did, I would think this would be one of the busiest days or worst to
plan an appointment for either you or them.

But this doesn't always happen. DirecTV has no liability towards you.
I have had Verizon cancel service calls at the last minute. Heck, I
have had them not even call to let me know they were cancelling. Do
you think I can go after them for lost wages? Not likely.

The food will be eaten somewhere. You, I and anyone who reads this
letter will know that. Hardship to the people you invited, due to the
inability to keep this appointment? I suppose you are planning to
pass any compensation on to your guests? You are being completely
unreasonable.

The crowning glory of this letter is that you asked for 3 months of
free service to compensate you. LOL

Super Bowl Sunday results in some beautiful consumer complaint
letters. This is one of them.

I agree, DirectTV dropped the ball and should get their act together.
I would never do business w/ them, because they sound like a joke of a
company. However, asking for a 3 month credit is a little greedy.
Maybe some free PPV or a month at most of free TV would work, but
THREE? You had a good letter, until you got greedy!

So you take the food wherever you go to watch the game. I'm sure your
friends will still eat it, even if it's not in your house.
I'm sure it's frustrating for the company to postpone your
installation, but things happen. I don't know how that's arrogance,
and if it's truly unacceptable behavior, just cancel the installation
completely and go with another provider.

Tim Q.,
What a cluster.
How could a compnay in this line of business pick Super Bowl Sunday
for this transaction?
You have to stop back and let us know how it pans out.
