NFL Redzone Channel

I have been a loyal DirecTv subscriber for several years. I originally got it, when I lived in an apartment complex, that only had access to satellite TV, specifically DirecTv. Over the years their service has been adequate, and I have kept with them. I am currently very upset with DirecTv. I feel that DirecTv is willing to sacrifice loyal customers like myself. In these economic times with a family of four, I understand that Cable or Satellite TV is a bonus and not a given. Even when my rate plan was discontinued several months back and I had to pay more, I kept with it. Now I keep seeing ads for the new NFL Redzone Channel. Normally these ads are for Dish Network, not DirecTv. I contacted DirecTv and was told, that the channel is available with the NFL Sunday Ticket, when you add the Superfan option. The NFL Sunday ticket costs $299.95 and the SUperfan add-on costs $100, so it would cost me $399.95 to add this one channel. The same channel that is offered on Dish Network for $5.99/mo. The similar channel package I have with DirecTv is also $10 with Dish Network. I know DirecTv wants to have the most HD channels, but for a family like mine even that provides minimal value because HD programming also costs more per month and then I have to pay more for the new box.
I want DirecTv to think about its loyal customers and make things affordable. If a smaller or lesser satellite provider cand provide why can't a big giant like DirecTv? I would love for DirecTv to make it possible for me to enjoy the NFL redzone channel. I am aware that there is likely no way that DirecTv will be able to provide or match what Dish Network is offering, but I figured since I have been loyal to DirecTv, I would provide an opportunity for DirecTv to be loyal to me.

I would love to see the cable companies be able to provide all the games and a red zone package to boot. Last week us folks on Oregon's south coast got stuck with the Seahawk game and since Fox wasn't running a doubleheader, we missed the 2-0 Niners at the 2-0 Vikings, which turned out to have the best game ending moment of the day when Favre hit the long TD pass with a couple of seconds to go to win the game. Unless we cable folks are just in the right market and on the right weekend, we miss out on a LOT of games we'd rather see.

I have Dish Network, and I have the redzone channel. It's alright I guess-but I still end up watching the full games on other channels and watching redzone during the commercials.
I'm a big NFL fan, but like you, would not pay what Direct wants for their Sunday Ticket.
I would speculate that Direct TV sees this channel as "competition" somehow for their Sunday Ticket package...you buy the Sunday Ticket so you can watch all the games, or just the games you want to watch. Redzone gives you access to all the games...not the whole games of course, but really, the part of the games that really matter-the redzone scoring opportunities. Maybe they feel many subscribers would opt to buy this channel for $6.00/month instead of the Sunday Ticket for $300. Dish does not have a Sunday Ticket option, which is probably why they offer this channel so cheap.
