Honor Your Word, Discover Card

I was offered a 0% interest for life deal, as long as I made two purchases per month. I made two purchases last month, and viewed my account online. One purchase did not show. I emailed Discover through my online account access, and a rep. called me back and stated that she would correct the error. A MONTH LATER, I get a bill showing that my interest rate has been made something or other, that made me get a load of finance charges for that month. I called, and they said that the earlier rep.'s comments were in my file, but they had not honored them. I asked them how I was to learn this, and they told me, "ma'am..this is why we're having this conversation." I pointed out that I had contacted THEM. So then they said they'd put my "inquiry" into some other dept. to see about having my charge show up, and my interest rate re-instated. I rec'd a call last week saying they had declined to renew my rate!!! and declined to add that charge of .86 which had allowed me to maintain a 0% interest rate.

MAKE YOUR REP's DO what they say they'll do, and honor it. Don't wait for a customer to follow up to make it happen. REinstate my 0% interest rate, and go ahead and add that .86 charge that you are missing. That is YOUR problem, to which I brought your attention, and not mine. Deal with it, as that is customer service.

The OP should make absolutely certain that the paperwork does not
express a requirement for a minimum purchase price.

It does sound to me as if $0.86 was a significant enouth purchase to
warrant retaining the interest rate.

you charged $0.86 on you Discover card?

I just don't even know what to say about that one.

As the other posters stated, it's always the fine print. I think it
would cost them more to process the paperwork alone than the amount
charged and that's why your interest rate soared from "Zero" to
"Something or Other"....leading to the finance charges.
I wonder how much you're expecting at the end of the year with their
"the card that pays you back" policy?

Got to agree with what Veince said. Check the fine print, there might
be a minimum amount of money that had to be spent to count as a
purchase.

It makes sense. Why would a card give out 0% interest when you cuold
just charge two fifty-cent items per month?

Then again, if you used a credit card that little that you only bought
two items a month, what's the point of having one?

On the other hand, I suppose that if the interest rate was 0%, why not
have one?

I guess they figured they would forfeit eighty-six cents instead of
giving you a zero percent interest rate for life.

Perhaps there was a minimum amount required for each charge, and
eight-six cents failed to meet the minimum.
