Bye Bye Dish...hello Comcast!

Posted Wed December 6, 2006 12:00 pm, by Terri S. written to Dish Network (Echo Star)

Last week a wrote a planet feedback letter regarding Dish Network not owning up to it's advertising on it's website for HDDVR. The very next day I received a phone call (message on answering machine) from the corporate offices @ EchoStar. I was impressed. I have been leaving messages for the gentleman who called me for days now, and he won't return my calls.

I am a woman based on principle. I don't work full time and go to school full time to spend my had worked dollars and very little free time chasing a company that obviously no longer wants me as a customer. Although Dish Network has the best channel line up for HD around my area, I will be switching to Comcast. They have offered me a "welcome back from the Dish" program that simply is unbeatable. They are also giving me the HDDVR box with no hassles, or upgrade fees, and no contract.

I guess I now will be wondering what to do with that ugly little dish once I switch. Perhaps a holiday cookie platter? There is nothing Dish can do to change my mind. But I hope they learn to advertise only what they plan on offering to customers. I will note that most people in my neighborhood have Dish Network, my mom has dish network, my best friend, and my brother. I am a student official at school and everyone I know is aware of my annoyance and the problems I have been having. Most people have HD and want DVR. I will be telling them about the great deal comcast is offering for Dish customers to come back.

Terri, I've had Comcast service (TV & ISP) for several years now and
would recommend them to anyone who would ask for my opinion. Granted,
when they first took over from AT&T in my community, there were a lot
of problems and most consumers attributed them to the fact that it
seemed Comcast 'bit off more than they could chew.' It's a very large
area and some said the modems left behind by AT&T were not compatible
with Comcast's capabilities, thus they suffered from lack of proper
equipment being immediately at hand and the techs available to solve
problems.

I had already been a TV subscriber, the only switch was my ISP.
During the first 6 weeks, I had Internet service only sporadically but
no problem with TV. After all the kinks were ironed out, I had no
charge for the on-and-off Internet service and received 6 weeks credit
on my TV billing.

Don't know what type deal they're offering you, but I have Basic
Cable, Cable Plus, and ISP. (Have no need nor time for premium
channels.) My monthly billing for the past two years has stayed at
$86.61. Included in this charge is $3/mo. for rental of the modem. I
could buy the modem outright for $120, but in case there's a problem
with it, I'd have to pay for repairs/replacement myself. Renting it
puts the responsibility on Comcast.

If ever you have to contact Comcast with a question, temporary outage,
etc., don't bother following their buffet salad of options--just stay
on the line and eventually a 'live' person answers. BTW, if either TV
or ISP is out for at least 2 hours, my bill is credited for that
amount of time.

I'd highly recommend Comcast for product and service. But that's
JMHO. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I signed up on the phone, and the sales person
told me my bill was going to be $87+tax. It turned out to be $115. I
even had his name, and his ID#- and no one was able to help. Now I'm
stuck with them for 18 months.
last month bill was $500.00- with a $375 fee for leased
equipment??!!!! I rather pay the $ to a lawyer to dispute the
charge..
cablevision is not bad-

My ex-husband used to work for Echostar and they aren't big on
customer service at all - all they want their employees to do is sell,
sell, sell. He only worked for them for about a month.

I've had Comcast since moving to Florida a year ago and have no
complaints with their service at all. Yes, they are a little pricey,
but my experience has always been good with them.

You will be making a HUGE mistake if you switch to Comcast. I dont
know anything about Dish but I do know that Comcast is an enormous
waste of money and pain in the tushy. Dont do it. DO NOT DO IT! Dont
fall for their offers. It will be more of a hassle in the end than you
can imagine.
