Current DSR Policy

I say this as an avid buyer AND seller on ebay. Bringing new buyers to
the site is a fantastic idea, however under the current system due to
the optional nature of the DSR a user who feels that the overall
transaction on all counts was stellar or "ALL-STAR" as my latest
feedback received was, but only feels the need to leave the top most
feedback and not leave any DSR, their opinion does not get factored into
the sellers ability to sell or not. According to THAT buyer, a seller
doesn't need any improvements, but that isn't factored in and is
summarily dismissed making the overall feedback left completely
irrelevant. As long as DSR's are optional to the buyer, the way it is
averaged is extraordinarily unfair to the seller since it's not
accounting for buyers who feel the seller has done an exemplary job
without leaving DSR feedback. In the meantime, because of this skewed
view of feedback the seller is penalized, in this case harshly.
The
only real way to make the DSR have a true picture of the seller is if
it's mandatory for all buyers to leave said feedback. As such, with a
positive 400+ rating and a contributing member of the ebay community
since 1999, I have now lost the ability to sell during the busiest
retail time of the year and can't get this ability back until after the
holidays are over. The implementation and timing of this new policy has
been severely mishandled in this loyal ebayer's estimation. I hope ebay
can reanalyze this new policy and make changes that will both entice new
buyers but also be fair to other half of the business that makes ebay
successful... the sellers.
Sinc.,
George G.

I am an avid Ebay buyer and seller, and I'm trying to understand what you find unfair about the Detailed Seller Rating, and why it is you are prevented from selling until after the holidays.
I am guessing that you are saying if 50 people buy from you in, say, a month, and 50 people leave feedback but only 30 leave DSR, with 20 others very pleased but NOT leaving DSR, your DSR rating may be skewed low. Hmmm. This would mean that people making the effort to leave DSR would more likely include those who found something negative. If something about your selling is on average subpar, this is a true observation.
The way I look at it, the feedback rating *together* with the DSR provide an overall picture of you as a seller. If your feedback is 99.8%, and you have 4-1/2 or 5 stars DSR, well that isn't bad. The DSR system allows buyers to break out the areas of satisfaction, which would take too much room in the 80 character feedback line. They don't post the DSR ratings until you have 10 entries, do they? That should filter out the 1 or 2 people that may give you an undeserved low rating. The best thing to do is be a good seller, but their is always a chance a buyer can screw you.
I don't understanding what bearing your DSR rating has on selling now vs after the holiday. Do you mean it will take that long to receive additional ratings to average out some lowballs you received?
