Eddie Bauer Deceived A Parent

Posted Wed September 20, 2006 12:00 pm, by Joella B. written to Eddie Bauer, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

I purchased a travel system in 2004 in anticipation of the arrival of my baby. After minimal use - the tires were beyond wear and the carseat's inside plastic for the canopy had broken. Worst of all, we had lost the bar that the carseat snaps into, and also is used later with the stroller as the back support in a fluke mishap. We were walking next to the channel of the Grand River when my daughter leaned back and the bar flew out and into the channel. I called the Eddie Bauer customer service line to order replacement parts and was told that Eddie Bauer is a clothing company and licenses it's name to other companies. Prior to this call I had believed that Eddie Bauer was a quality company that made quality products that they could stand behind. It was my assumption that since the name Eddie Bauer is so synonomous with outdoor gear that this stroller would be durable. This travel system and the word quality should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

I think that Eddie Bauer Inc. should do your own testing of the products that you put your name on. I feel very decieved that this product was made by another company and that I will have to go on a manhunt to find replacement parts for the stroller and carseat that didn't even last through the first year of my first child. Furthermore, I think that Eddie Bauer Inc. should fund the cost of my replacement parts when I do find them for the "Eddie Bauer" Euro Travel System.

I bought an eddie bauer travel system a few months ago, and the
stroller looks like I've had it for years. I am very unhappy with this
product and the way it has worn for the amount of money I spent on it.

I too need to replace this bar! Ours was destroyed by our
dog.....were you able to find a replacement?

I hope so, and I really appreciate any help you can give me in
securing a replacement for ours.

I too cannot find the bar that the car seat snaps onto. Since the
arrival of my second child, I have been desperately trying to track
one down, with no luck. You are right that quality are lacking is
here. Plus, I find that the car seat weight alone or with my son in
it is extremely heavy compared with other brand car seats with
children in them. Big difference!

new seatbelt.

Thanks,

Eddie Bauer was very prompt to return my e-mail. First of all -
someone changed the title of my post - and also added a picture. My
original post was titled "Decieved Parent" I was only saying that I
was deceived by thinking that Eddie Bauer actually made the stroller.
ALSO - I live in Michigan where a stroller is only used 2 months out
of the year. It should not be worn out by this time. I also stated
that I thought if they were going to be puuting thier name on it -
they should test it to make sure it meets some tough standards. For
all of the folks out there thinking that I should just go buy a new
one - be informed that I paid $230 for something that I thought should
last- this is not just a stroller is is also a carseat and without the
"magic bar" you cannot clip the carseat into the stroller - or even
use the stroller alone as this bar supports the back. And there is a
boardwalk next to the chennel it flew into by the way.
Eddie Bauer's e-mail gave me some good information on how I might be
able to obtain replacement parts - information that the snooty lady on
the customer service line was not willing to share.

Oh snap! They deceived a PARENT, of all people!

A parent who waited two years to report the problems with her child's
stroller.

Why did you wait 2 years before complaining? How long where you
waiting for your child?

A quick search shows that Cosco (who makes and sells baby products,
like strollers, under their own name) makes this product (at least,
I'm assuming you have the same model).

The manual that comes with your stroller (WHICH YOU ARE TOLD NOT TO
LOSE) should tell you, clearly, how to get parts and who to call for
customer service. As well, the 800 number should also be on the
stroller, some place (for people who have lost the manual).

So, unless the number on the stroller/in the manual was EB, you called
the wrong people.

It would be nice if companies that license their names stopped and
thought about why manufacturers pay for their name. To sell products
based on the reputation of that name, right? If the brand/name Eddie
Bauer no longer means quality, then why pay extra for it? So while
maybe EB should not actually replace the part, they should be informed
so they can be aware of the junk that is being sold in their name, and
maybe retain some of their reputation for rugged utility.

Oh, no - not a PARENT! Goodness, gracious! Lawdy have mercy! You
can screw anyone over, Eddie Bauer, but I'm a PARENT! I'm
untouchable!

Give me a break.

If Eddie Bauer didn't make the travel system, it's probably not going
to replace anything. Further, if the thing (which, incidentally, is
TWO YEARS OLD) was such a poor quality item, why would you want anyone
to replace anything?

Buy a new stroller. The thing is two years old, anyway.

While I know it sounds decieving, it really isn't. Some yahoo at some
company got the brilliant idea "Eddie Bauer" is a recognizable name to
a lot of baby boomers...wouldn't it be great to pay extra to use their
name on our product and these strollers will sell like hotcakes."
I take it it worked. Don't see people with Eddie Bauer edition fords
going to Eddie Bauer clothing stores looking for oil changes or tire
roatations (well if they do, I haven't heard of it yet).
I'd check to see if these were recalled by the consumer product safety
commission website... worth a shot... maybe find the manufacturer and
write them.

I had some problems as well with the Eddie Bauer stroller. First of
all, whe i pushed it would alsways swerve to one side. So i contacted
Eddie Bauer about 5 times before they agreef to let me swap the
stroller for another one. I exchanged it and it didn't swerve to one
side but the canopy on th car seat must have been defective because it
broke after about 2 weeks. Again I contacted them to no avail.

Eddie Bauer obviously didn't manufacturer these items, so you need to
find our who did and address your concerns with them. After a little
searching on the Internet, it appears that the Euro Travel System is
distributed by BabyAge and their customer service number is
800-222-9243.
