Fitworks Membership Scams

Posted Tue May 22, 2012 6:17 pm, by Naomi D. written to Fitworks

Write a Letter to this Company

When I realized my membership renewed automatically, I called my Fitworks in Norwood, Ohio and the person (whose name I did not get) told me he would take care of it. They had already charged me for a renewal which prompted this phone call two months ago, and today I see that the April membership came out of my account as well as 2 $20 charges for insufficient funds. Apparently he didn't "take care of it"

When my Mom went to the gym tonight they gave her a cancellation form and said they could not do anything about getting the total of $70 they took out of my account today back. I am a full time student and I do not work during the school year so while $70 may not seem like a lot to other people, it is to me.

I think the employee who said he would take care of it is out of line and the other employees my mom spoke to tonight were not helpful. They made comments like "she signed it" and "she should read what she signs" and "she's an adult, why didn't she take care of her business". These are the kind of comments made by people who are definitely not in the customer service field; they are there to make a buck and do not care how it's done.

Give me my money back and not try to take any more money out of my account

You should always read what you sign.

I know many people want to take contracts and just pick and choose
which parts they want to honor. The problem is.... if one wants to
hold a company to the strict letter of a contract one then gives up
their right to pick and choose which parts to honor.

"They made comments like "she signed it" and "she should read what she
signs" and "she's an adult, why didn't she take care of her
business"."

I absolutely agree.

cancel the credit card that is linked to this or have your bank
reassign your checking account number. (depending on how they are
taking the money)

And why is your MOM going and talking to them? By rights, you're
lucky they even gave her the time of day since it isn't her account.
It was rude, but no wonder they were hostile with her! It looks
incredibly bad sending her to handle your business.

Finally, any time you provide a company access to your accounts, you
should take steps to ensure that you can MAKE them stop if necessary.
Pre-paid credit cards work well, as well as an actual credit card with
a low limit so that many charges can't stack up before it begins
declining.

They aren't in the customer service business, they are salespeople and
once they have access to your money, they could care less about you.
