we own not one but 2 ford vehicles. they both have the same problem with the door ajar light staying on and the overhead light staying on. very annoying at night!! my sho has been in the shop for this problem 3 times. at 200 per fix, this should be fixed. they say its the switches and replace them all. on my fourth visit, they said pull the relay switch. we're sorry your having to repeatedly spend money to fix this issue. now my husbands truck is doing the same thing!!! i called ford customer service, they said take it to a dealer!!! at your own expense!!! how much do i have to pay to get this problem resolved??? i don't care that my car is no longer in warranty or my truck!! i have tried!!! my inlaws had the same problem with their windstar!! starting to see a pattern??? they got rid of it, it was under warranty, but not those switches. after they second time, they said no more!! i call it a ford defect!! whats the chances that you have 2 ford vehicles and the same problem with both?? my husband says maybe its time to look at chevrolet although we've both been with ford since learning to drive eons ago. this is a money sucking pit!! here is my reference numbers: 0531480378 & 1530190378. i am tired of shelling out money on this issue. i'm tired of hearing, we can't help you. get it fixed and it will last long enough for the warranty to run out on it then your right back in the same boat again. i don't want to go thru this mess with my husbands truck.
you fix it at your expense. i have went above and beyond on this one just because i love my car and i want to keep it and i believed in ford. my faith is now shaken badly, stomped in the dirt and spit on!! fix my husbands truck!! why should he have to go thru the same aggravation and money spending that i have??? mechanically, both vehicles are sound, what is it you say?? built ford tough??? does that only apply to the engine??? your customer service says i should take it back to another dealer at my expense!!! is she losing her mind giving out advice like that??? what happened to customer service and let me help you. let ford stand behind their product!!!

Harleycat nailed it on the overall quality of the letter. Wading through the extra punctuation, sentence fragments, and lack of capitalization takes the reader's mind off the content of the letter, thereby reducing the chance that your complaint will be heard effectively.
You don't mention the age or mileage on either vehicle, so it's impossible to determine if Customer Service gave you good advice or not. If Ford is like other manufacturers, the CS reps cannot authorize out-of-warranty repairs. Those have to be done with a dealer's assistance. And they're not going to promise a paid visit to the dealer, unless you're affected by a recall, or still under warranty.
That said, I have had issues with the door ajar light staying on in my Ranger. A few keyword searches on some forums led to an easy, inexpensive way to address it. I spray the switches with a little WD-40 from time to time (1-2x per year), and the issue goes away. I agree, it is annoying, especially when I have to stand outside to wait for dome light to shut off at night. I sprayed it down Wednesday morning, and the dome light's gone off within 15 seconds of setting the alarm. It had been staying on for well over a minute prior.
