This Ford Expedition Has Gone Awry

In November of 2004, I purchased an Expedition XLT from Sawgrass Ford. The salesmen and service representatives have been courteous and helpful. I appreciate that because I have had one of the worst vehicle experiences, that has caused me so much aggravation, and it continues.
I have owned many vehicles, from different manufacturers. In the last 12 years I owned 3 Jeep Grand Cherokees and only had minimal issues. My in-laws and friends had owned Expeditions and recommended them. I read reviews and decided to purchase one. I went to Sawgrass Ford and picked out an Expedition and brought it home.
On the way home, the vehicle had a severe vibration as I drove on the highway. I brought it back to the dealer and the tires were tested. All four of the tires failed and I was given new ones.
After approximately 5 months, the leather on the front seats became badly cracked. Again I went back to the dealer and he ordered new seats, however I had to return 3 times because they were installed on 3 different occasions.
A month later there was a howling sound from the rear axle. I brought it back to the dealer and my service advisor stated that this is common and the rear end bearings needed to be replaced. Again My car stayed in the shop and I was without it for 2 days.
My drivers side power window switch failed and needed to be replaced. Again another day at the shop.
My side panels were replaced 2 days ago because they faded.
I had brought the car in on 2 occassions because the air conditioner compressor emits a loud bang when the vehicle is started. My service advisor tells me that it happens on his car as well. Nothing was done. My remote key switch does not work intermitently, that still occurs.
I had friends in the 2nd row seats yesterday that pointed out yet another problem. The leather is cracked on ALL 3 seats!!!!
I have 17,000 miles on this vehicle and the problems are endless. Everytime that I have to go to the dealer, I have to take time from work and I am without my car for at least a day. I have owned this car for 14 months and it seems as though I have had to bring it back to the dealer that many times as well.
I would like my vehicle replaced. I attempted to have the dealer replace it after my 5th sevice visit. I was told my car was not that valuable and I would lose money. Why not tell me that before my purchase. I have owned many vehicles and I have never experienced these problems before. I have 3 friends who own Expeditions and I am the only one who has a lemon. I am requesting that the company intercede and assist me in replacing my vehicle. I will have to bring the vehicle in to service at least another 2 times because the second row seat leather is badly cracked. The problems are endless. I thank you in advance for your help.

I have an 03, Have had zero problems with it, Had to replace tires and brakes at 25k and 50k but thats typical with the wear and how I drive it. at 59,000 with zero problems. Live only a few miles from sawgrass Ford and take it for service there and oil changes. All these problems you guys are having make me wonder. Why are your seats cracking? I dont get it, I leave mine in the sun, because I live in an apartment and havent had this problem?

I also have a 2004 Expedition xlt with grey leather interior. The both front seats cracked before 1 year and under 12000 miles. I took it to the dealer and they said it was just wear and would not offer to replace it. My back seats are also doing it. I am in the process of contacting the main office via email and then file a complaint with the BBB.org. I don't know if this would be a general complaint of a lemon law complaint. Anyone with any suggestions? Also tires had to be replaced under 34000 miles due to the bad contential tires used.

You are very nice. If it was me I would be pitching a FIT! LOL!
I hope you get a good solution to this problem.
If not I would do what the others suggested and get a lawyer. They passed the Lemon Law just for this exact reason.
Good luck!

OUCH! Indeed I have to agree you got a bad one at the very least. With so many letters writter here asking the moon for their older cars - this is one where a replacement vehicle should be in order.
Talk to an attorney on this one. Since the problems have all be different, that might be the catch here.
Lastly, indeed the model you bought should not be giving you these problems. It should give you years and years of excellent service - that's why they are so popular vs. the competition in the market. I'd say you definitely got a lemon - the key is, it is legally a lemon.
Good luck!

Wow - it sounds like you really got a lemon with this Ford Expedition!
I sure hope that they contact you about your SUV.
If they do not give you satisfactory results, and you keep having problems, you need to contact a lawyer about the Lemon Law. I did a search and found this website... http://www.lemonlawamerica.com/
As much as we pay for vehicles, you expect them to last many years. They're just not built like they used to be.
Good luck - I hope they fix (or replace) the problem! :)
