GEICO Price Quote MUCH higher than my current rate

Posted Tue April 3, 2012 6:33 pm, by Chad G. written to Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO)

Write a Letter to this Company

Dear Sir Or Madam,

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know why I will not be purchasing insurance from your company.

Your company's claim to fame is the supposed ability to save customers 15% or more on their auto insurance. I currently have Progressive insurance. I have full coverage on my Pontiac Grand Prix and my premium is between $350 and $400 per six month period. I logged on to your website for an online quote and was offered liability ONLY coverage for a whopping $626 per six month period.

I don't expect you to offer me a better rate, you obviously have a system that works for you and your many customers. I would like you to reconsider your advertising gimmick. I realize that the ad says "COULD save UP TO 15%", but you don't make the qualifications well known. As in, the specific kind of customers that can save with your company. I personally know a number of people who have recieved higher quotes from GEICO than what they are currently paying.

Thank you for your time.

The thing I discovered with GEICO is that their online price does not
match the price you get if you talk to someone and even though I
questioned it thoroughly, I was never able to get a satisfactory
answer as to why.

They were also penalizing me for things that had nothing to do with me
- such as an accident my husband had over 7 years ago with a car he no
longer owns, and that the claim was placed with his insurance (we have
separate insurance due to separate finances). I had to argue my case
for the rep to even see that the info the had was outdated.

I had considered GEICO for my insurance, even though it was less than
another company, but the fact that they seem to engage in some
questionable practices made me consider another company when I was
looking into switching.

I checked Progressive and their rates for me were ridiculously high.
I stayed with State Farm. It varies from person to person, based on a
whole bunch of criteria that actuaries outline and underwriters
follow.
