Hardee's Store Hours - Closing Early Even With Customers Driving Up

Posted Mon April 3, 2006, by Alan S. written to Hardee's

Write a Letter to this Company

Hardee's on Western Ave.in Knoxville is supposed to be open until 11:00 PM. I attempted to patronize this location last Sunday evening (3/26/06) at 10:30, and found the restaurant already closed, though the outside lights were still on. After waiting at the Drive-thru menu sign and getting no response, I went to the window thinking maybe the intercom just wasn't working, and finally got someone's attention inside. He told me they had closed early because they were "short-staffed" and "weren't doing nothing."

I went back again Sunday 4/2/06 at 10:00 PM and again found the outside lights on, but no answer at the Drive-thru. One car ahead of me had already waited, received no response, and left. Two other cars besides us had circled around and left while I was there. I went to the window and was told by a sloppily dressed teenager that it was just him, another high school guy, and the manager, and that they couldn't work late because they're in high school. I told him to tell the manager that I would register a complaint about this with someone higher up, since this was the second week in a row that this had happened.

I have really enjoyed Hardee's new thickburgers, and now prefer them to Wendy's which was my favorite until recently. However, my work schedule often results in my eating late. In light of the above occurrences, your competitors are likely to be my first choice from now on, especially since I have to often eat late for various reasons.

Is Hardee's open until 11:00 PM, or is it not? If it is, then I respectfully ask that you have them keep it open until that time. If not, let us know so that we don't waste time going all the way there only to find it closed early.

I should think that if Hardee's is serious about competing with Wendy's and Krystal that you'd correct this sort of thing. This is poor customer service, and will ultimately cost you a good deal of business. I will now be tempted to go to your competitors next time - they did a great job when I was stuck going to them the last few times.

Since I think it likely, though, that upper management is unaware that this sort of thing is going on, I wanted to write this letter to let you know about it. I love the Hardee's Thickburgers, and would hate to have to give them up. The sloppy service at this location, however, is very frustrating.

You every right to be upset! This site is for people like us. Its made
to share our opinions, good ones or bad! I have a large family and I
dine out 1 or 2 times a week. Bad food and/or service is my number one
enemy! Food is tops on my important stuff list! Those people that
disagree with me, obviously don't have people that depend on them for
survival! Call Hardee's during daytime hours and speak with the GM.
Ask him the name and contact of the owner of the franchise. Contact
the owner and all will be solved.

I would also try contacting the store manager(not the shift manager)
and letting him know of this problem. B/c if they're advertising
staying open till XXoclock, then they need to be open until then.

I don't know about TN but when Hardee's was operating in my state,
each restaurant was independently owned so writing to 'home office'
would do no good. All locations are now either owned or operated by
Tim Horton's out of Windsor, Ont.

I would recommend going to the competitors. Obviously the management
in this place is unacceptable. Try wendy's.

Here's another case of would you rather:

Would you rather have Hardee's close when they are short-staffed or
stay open and wait longer than usual for your order?

I can see you complaining either way.

Also, I doubt they are losing a "good deal of business" because why
would they close early if they "weren't doing anything."

I agree there was no threat. by Mr. Mafia Thu April 6, 2006 @ 3:05 PM

Another good letter. That's three in a row tonight.

Those high school kids should not have even been there at that hour.
Where I live, Hardee's would be in hot water for not making them leave
on time. When my daughter was in high school, her employer would push
her out the door and not let her stay one minute past 10:00. So
Hardee's schedules high school kids on the late shift and then uses
that as an excuse to close early. They need to get it right.

I agree, great letter and a totally legitimate problem. I agree with
you Alan, upper management probably has no idea that this is going on.
Good luck with getting a response. You will have to update us when
Hardee's responds.
