Scammer Alert Do NOT Allow computer Access!

Posted Thu August 2, 2012 5:55 pm, by Kate R. written to Help PC Online

This is for your information. Please read and take notice. Do not give any information to a company called "Help PC Online"

They have called my house and my friend's house using the same phone number - 203-239-7051. The number used on the caller id claims they are calling from New Haven Connecticut in the US. However, they are most likely using a fake caller ID.

I just received a call from this woman with a heavy chinese accent calling herself "Linda" and claiming to be from a company called "Help PC Online" telling me that my computer has been sending error messages. I knew this was incorrect and a scam but I let on I didn't know and asked for a call back number. The number they gave me to call them back is 1 877 337 3618.

It's a shame there are companies out there who try to scam people with things like this. Unfortunately, there are people who will fall for it and that's why these shady people are still out there preying on those who are trusting.

Please do not give this company your information. They claim they are working for microsoft, but that is not the case at all. There are numerous reports of scams like this all over the internet. Please pass this information along to friends and family, especially those that are more susceptible to falling victim in these types of scams: usually those who are older and more trusting, and those who know little about computers.

Do not take any calls from 203-239-7051 or 1 877 337 3618. Report instances like this to the phone company or whatever organization in your jurisdiction that is working towards thwarting scams like this. Phonebusters or any other companies out there.

If we get the message out there and stop allowing these people to scam us, hopefully eventually the scammers will go away. At least until they have sorted out the next big scam.

Do not allow Help PC online to gain remote control of your computer. They do not work for Microsoft , regardless of what you tell them. Report 1 877 337 3618 and 203 238 7051 when these numbers appear on your call display.

Help end this fraud.

Please take the time to explain scams like this to those who might be an easy target. Arm them with the information needed to defeat people like this. If a company calls you up out of the blue and requests remote access to your desktop, tell them no. Ask them for a call back number and for more information about the company and how they found you. gather as much from them as you can in order to have the ammunition to fight these scum.

How To Handle Telemarketers

1.If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for
bankruptcy and you could sure use some money.
2.If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want
to know?" Alternately, you can tell them, "I'm so glad you asked,
because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these
problems; my arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my car
won't start..." When they try to get to the sell, just keep talking
about your made up problems.
3.If they say they're John Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell
their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them
where it is located. Continue asking them personal questions or
questions about their company for as long as necessary.
4.This works great if you are male: Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy
and I'm with XYZ Company..." You: (Wait for a second) With a real
husky voice ask, "What are you wearing?"
5.Cry out in surprise, "Judy! Is that you? Oh my God! Judy, how have
you been?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of
terror as she tries to figure out where she could know you from.
6.Say "No" over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each one and
keep a rhythmic tempo, even as they are trying to speak. This is most
fun if you can do it until they hang up.
7.If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends
Plan, reply, in as SINISTER a voice as you can, "I don't have any
friends...would YOU be my friend?"
8.If the company cleans rugs, respond: "Can you get blood out? Can you
get out GOAT blood? How about HUMAN blood?"
9.Ask him/her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them
that you could not just give your credit card number to a complete
stranger.
10.Tell the telemarketer that you work for the same company, they
often can't sell to their fellow employees.
11.Answer the phone. As soon as you realize it is a telemarketer, set
the receiver down, shout or scream "Oh my God!!!" and then hang-up.
12.Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask them if
they will give you their HOME phone number, you will call them back.
When the telemarketer explains that they cannot give out their HOME
number, you say "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home,
right?" The telemarketer will agree and you say, "Now you know how I
feel!" Hang up.
13.Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.
14.Tell them it is dinner time, BUT ask if they would please hold. Put
them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure.
Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation.
15.Tell the telemarketer you are on "home incarceration" and ask if
they could bring you some beer.
16.Tell the telemarketer, "Okay, I will listen to you. But I should
probably tell you, I'm not wearing any clothes."
17.Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke.
"Come on Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"
18.Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up...
louder...louder...louder...
19.Tell them to talk VERY SLOWLY, because you want to write DOWN EVERY
WORD.

I always use 800 notes when looking up questionable phone numbers.

Also, don't forget to visit to do the following

1) If you DIDN'T fall for the scam
File complaints with the FTC & the FCC
- https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx
- http://www.fcc.gov/complaints/

2) If you DID fall for the scam
- File the complaints (both)
- File a police report
- Contact all three credit reporting agencies to get a freeze on your
credit

Oh and for filing the FTC & FCC reports, use as much detail as
possible. I've gotten some emails back on them, just form letters
really but it means at least my complaint is in the system.

Lately I've even been putting in extra details such as how many times
I've told individual companies to stop calling me back (Political
Surveys of America) and that they keep calling me back anyway to the
point that I've had to block their numbers... and that they keep
changing the numbers to get around my block.

You might not see it right away but hopefully you can help build a
case against them.

And for immediate results - don't forget to post at 800notes. you can
at least share data with other consumers right away.

Kate R.,

Good information.

Take a look around Google and find some tech blogs and post your
letter there as well.

Speaking of scum I'd do it myself but I have to grab a plane to
Nigeria to pick up my $16 million "gift". Just kidding.
