hinge breakage on hp-dv9615 laptop

On Nov.27, 2007, I purchased an Hp-dv9615 computer. 2 weeks ago, I experienced a rupture of the left hinge of the laptop. As I was out of town, I could not bring the computer in until last week. Within a few days of the left hinge breaking, the right hinge broke. I now have a screen that is separated from the body of the computer. After some checking, I found out that there had been a recall on the dv9100 to 9400 series due to a hinge problem. When I called customer service at hp I was told that there was no solution for my problem other than to send the computer in for a repair of $300.00. I truly believe that same problem is affecting the 9600 series.

I would very much appreciate my computer being repaired by HP on a warranty basis. I own both an ACER and a Toshiba laptop and have never experienced this problem before. It is bizarre that at 20 months the hinges break in such an unusual way.

Actually this is a very usual think escpecially if you carry the
computer with you everyday or open/close the lid alot. As being a
computer technician something i have seen many times and it is
actually quite easy to repair depending if the plastics around the
screen broke or not. I have a cto version of the dv9600 that is
carried on a semi frequnt basis and no hing failure yet but usually
you can tell if they are going bad before they do, will feel a little
loose or wobelly and you will hear it creak when opening or closing.

much cheaper to do your self and is easy. Here are the hinges

under 20$ for hinges there, that part thru hp is 66$

I am sure you can find the lid if you need to just ebay search "dv9000
lid"

and here is the repair manual which will show you what to do right
from HP.

That will walk you thru it for the most part even for a novice should
take less then an hour or two to complete.
