Hewlett-Packard is Responsible for Replacing My Printer!

Today is the day I will sever all ties with HP. I have been a loyal customer for many, many years. I have an HP Computer and have had several HP printers. Today, I decided to replace my cartridges on my PSC 1610 all in one. I placed a cartridge 99 on the left side where my OTHER color cartridge went. Then, I got and error message, saying it number(99) was (not meant to be used on my printer. However, the number 99 box does not say ANYWHERE that the cartridge should be placed on the right! According to the tech support my printer was out of warranty and they cannot help me. The cartridge is forever stuck in my printer through no fault of my own but there is nothing HP can but offer me a discount on another printer. How dare you offer such a lousy resolution to a customer who has bought nothing but HP products for the last 8 years! Because of your poor customer service I shall no longer purchase another HP product. I shall let all my friends and family know about this most unpleasant encounter with your company. This is NO WAY to try and win public support for your products.
Based on the fact that there are NO instructions on the package as to what side of the printer cartridge 99 MUST be installed (which is totally different than the illustrations on the printer) I feel HP should be responsible for replacing my printer! Why? Because you did NOT give ANY instruction on your packaging that cartridge #99 MUST be placed opposite of the illustration on the printer!

The cartridges are coded with emblems that correspond to emblems on the printer. It sounds like you just got confused as to what the #99 cartridge was.
If it's jammed in there hard enough to never come out, you must have really used some force to push it in. Didn't you start to think something was wrong when it didn't fit properly?
I can't imagine giving up on HP products. I have a lot of them, as do other family members. I think they make the best printers.

The first line just blew me away. How much business did your purchases over the years add up to, and how is that any excuse or leverage for expecting the impossible?
HP did what they could. In your rush to get printing, you ignored every possible warning sign and instruction and jammed a cartrige in the wrong place. I'm positive the amount of force needed to jam the cartrige in had to cause some other damage. It's a delicate machine to begin with. They offered you a discount on a new one. You "how dare them" after stating "forever stuck in my printer THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN". Hello... who jammed the cartridge in the printer?

I do believe there are instructions on how to put the cartridge in, I'd know, I needed to use it lol. Also, I've never heard someone jamming it in the place to hard that they coulnd't get it out. I'm just not believing this story...

Lemme get this right. You bought a 99 which is the photo cartridge for that model and works with the color cartridge (either 95 or 97). The printer (like most HPs) came with a quick start sheet and a manual to show at one sale.
you where the printer cartridges go. You ASSumed that the 99 was a color cartridge, stuck it in the wrong slot because you didn't read directions and now you have broken your out of warranty printer. So now HP, who has absolutely no obligation to you, offers you a discount (which intelligent people who can change a cartridge wouldn't get) and that is not good enough for you?
Wow.
Please tell all of your friends. HP will certainly fold with the loss of those 2 sales.

I work in tech support and have to change printer cartridges often, almost all are HP. Every box has instructions and they are readily available on HP's website, too. I think, in my opinion, that you should have known were the cartridges go, specially since you've owned several HP printers and probably installed the cartridges when you first used the printer. Also, all HP cartridges are color coded (I can't speak for non-genuine HP cartridge though).
If you are going to stop buying HP printers then I recommend Canon, they are very reliable and have the cheapest replacement cartridges, I've had my Canon printer for at least 2 years and it has never failed.

The instructions for replacing cartridges start on page 79 in your owner's manual. The 99 cartridge is a photo cartridge, not a color cartridge. You tried to place a photo cartridge (#99) in the color slot. The tri-color cartridges go in the left slot and the black and photo cartridges go in the right slot. The print cartridges are also marked as are the slots on the printer. If it has a white square or a white pentagon on the label, it goes into the slot on the right, which is labeled with a solid white square and a solid white pentagon.
It isn't HP's fault that you put it in the wrong slot, they don't owe you anything.
