Charging Port

So I called today about a problem that we have had for a long while (about 6 months). The problem is that the charging port (female end) does not hold the charger (male end). This is no performance issue or anything so it is not a huge problem. When I talked to HP today they told me that I would have to back up all files on the laptop because they would be erasing them all, and they also mentioned that I would have to pay for shipping. Really??!! Who are they trying to kid, I have read in a bunch of different places that this is a very common problem and yet you want me to pay for shipping? It is a problem with the part engineering, not me plugging it in.

I would like HP to reimburse me to have it fixed locally. We pay enough for computer components and software, we shouldn't have to pay for there mistakes as well! My POC is akronevan2@yahoo.com

I do not understand why this type of repair would require erasing all
of your files?

If this is allowed by your warranty, then yes. But it may not be. I
don't recall being able to do that with my non-HP computer.

You say it isn't a huge problem. It will be if the jack fails
completely, or you have to tape the plug in place to keep it
connected.

It it a common problem with many computers, but that doesn't mean you
get to call the shots on how it is repaired, or what should be covered
and what not.

A local computer store might be able to fix this for about the price
of shipping and insuring your computer. A lot faster, too.
