HP won't fix my laptop even though they knew of issues

My HP Pavillion dv9000 was working fine and then all of a sudden it wasn't getting a wireless connection. I turned the laptop off to restart to see if that would fix the problem and I haven't been able to turn it back on since. It tried to start it back up and the lights on the buttons turned on but only for a few seconds, then it contiuned to turn off and on without any success in actually starting up. Looking online there has been issues with plenty of HP laptops. They extended the warranty for a year, though that extension was up in April, and my computer stopped working last month. I called customer service and they were no help to me. They only offered a $40 discount on getting it fixed.
All I want is for HP to fix my laptop for free. They knew that there was an issue with the Pavillion laptops but didn't do much in order to get the word out about it.

The problem with this particular laptop is the video card. This model has a Turion processor and NVIDIA card. They are not compatable, I repeat, they are not compatable, and HP did not realize this until it was too late. They now refuse to repair my laptop, and many others becasue they say the warranty is out of service. I would suggest you go to the HP.com and send an email to the president of the company. I did that and got a pretty quick response from a case manager, but still no satisfactory results. They will repair it for $250.00, but what is the point if it repeats itself? I can do it for $100.00, but the problem will happen again. Good Luck!

Ah these are always annoying times when things like this happen and can be tricky because not just of symptons but actuall recall may different from your current situation.
First I would like to mention is that the known issue that you are talking about is actually quite old dating back past 2006. So more then likely if you purchased your laptop after may 2006 the issue that was covered in the recall was fixed and your pc is not included. For full details I found this page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product =1842189&lang=en&docname=c01087277#
Which is actually the tech support article for the issue that you speak of. If you click on the dv9XXX model that you have it will show you based on what part number laptop if you have if it is one that is known to have the problem. If it is not it that list it is not covered at all by the extension as was known not to have the problem. Personally i have a dv6500cto from 2007 and not in that list so just since that you have a dv9000 don't mean that it was one that was covered under recall.
That problem can happen on any laptop and not nessically part of this known problem. And the funny thing about the internet is you can usually find other people with simaler problems and no solutions so you are also not getting the full picture of what is actually occuring. This can be a memory issue, the battery, or actual motherboard with the last being most severe. There were probably 100s of thousands of these exact laptops sold world wide and not all of them had this issue. If your part number is actually in the table then would fall subject to it. If not that is not a model with the known issue at all. Think of owning a Toyota Camery with a 6 cyl engine and Toyota issues a recall after manufacturers 3 year warranty or what ever it is now for the Camery with 4 cyl engine blowing head gaskets. Your Camery did the exact same thing and dealer wants you to pay $2000 to fix the problem. Different engine so not covered in recall and you have to pay the cost for repair. Same exact deal here.
Given HPs response it don't seem like it is covered. My girlfriend did have one of the laptops covered in the problem and was past the 24 months by 4 months and they did take care of it. I always have had great luck and support (minus bad english) from HP. But being as such and without knowing the part number not sure but I am almost certain it is that your model is not one with the known issue so not covered. Being out of 1 year manufacturers warranty no computer manufacturer would repair free. This is also why they sell the extended 2 and 3 year warranties to provide worry free computing and if this happens regaurdless of recall or not would be taken care of. Without it unfortunatly after that 1 year, you become the warranty on the PC. I would fully review the article to see if yours is actually covered and the terms of such. When it was recalled back in 2006 for the known issues with the manufacturer of the part says it would fail in 2 years of purchase so that is what it was extended to no mas. So read up and if that is part of the issue and is covered by the recall you have ammunition to face HP with for the repair and if you have or can get reciept showing under 2 years you would be fine. And if not you are not covered under then "HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" and the repair cost is on you.
