On December 28th i purchased a washer and dryer combo from the floor of Home depot in Hutto Texas. It arrived on the 31 and I plugged it in to wash some clothes and the washer rattled like it was unbalanced so i removed the clothes again but the machine continued to malfunction. I immediatly called home depot and spoke to a MOD (manager on duty) and explained the problem and from that day till the 4th of January I have had promise after promise made concerning the replacement of this defective washer but all of them were false. I even called the custumer care line but I was told to bring it in( I can't, I'm dissabled from my military service) or call the 800 # from GE I never received along with manuals warranty info etc.I never received.
AS A FOLLOW UP
I received a call from someone at the coorporate HQ or so she said. This child proceeded to tell me how it was all my fault home depot in Hutto sold me a garbage washer. I was also told they had my signature to that affect.
Oh what a tangled web home depot weaves

There is a very dishonest mgmt team at your home depot in Hutto TX

Sounds like they didn't pull the shipping pins or if they tried the
strap broke and the pins did not disengage.

What an ignorant comment to make to anyone by saying that they had
your signature on file and that means you must accept a faulty
appliance.
Talk to the BBB and any other consumer agency you can until you get
either your money back or a washer that works.

I know it is brand new, but if you can't get it into the store call
for service and have the manufacturer correct the problem. If it is
not dented or anything there might just be some little something the
repair techs can do to make it run for you.

Good Luck

Did you get those special rubber pads for each of the four legs
underneath the washer? I've had those for washing machines in the
past, and it took care of the moving, the noise, the shimmying, no
problemo.

Did you remove the shipping bolts (pins) from the back or side of the
washer? These pins are commonly marked by a huge piece of yellow
plastic and are what holds the tub in place during shipping. If you
try to use the washer with the pins still in it, the washer will shake
and make alot of noise.

I've had so many customers call me and tell me thier washer is
vibrating across the floor and the problem is usually that the
shipping bolts are still in. Usually though, the damage to the machine
has already been done.

Joseph, if you personally cannot get the washer back to Home Depot,
you still need to come up with a plan that will get it back there.

I get what you're saying. I'm disabled, and there are a lot of things
I can't do. But I'm also a grownup, and sometimes I have to figure
out how to do things that are easy for most of my neighbors, but are
very difficult for me. That's life.

I would suggest that you contact the Austin Resource Center for
Independent Living, which is an independent living center serving
Travis County and some nearby communities. The website is
www.arcil.com and the phone number is 512-832-6349. Ask them whether
they know of anyone who provides personal assistance to people with
disabilities, who owns a vehicle that can transport a washing machine,
and who is interested in a few hours of work. If PAs in Texas are
making the kind of money PAs in Illinois are, you will find that this
is cheap labor. (If your disability is anything other than
mobility-related, I don't know how well-equipped ARCIL will be to help
you out. In my experience CILs provide services to all of us when
it's time to raise money, and a lot of them only provide services (or
at least services that are useful) to plain vanilla wheelchair users
and maybe a couple of other small constituencies when it's time to
spend that money. Some are really excellent. Many others are not.)

If that doesn't work, I would suggest that you contact ADAPT. The
Texas chapter has a website at www.adaptoftexas.org. These people are
fighting for in-home services, and I'm sure that they'll have ideas
for local people who could help you. (A lot of ADAPT people are also
deeply involved with CILs, so I would urge you not to burn any bridges
with the CIL until after you contact ADAPT. Like CILs, ADAPT chapters
vary widely in their preparedness to cope with people other than
wheelchair users, but the only people I've ever actually dealt with
from the Texas chapter are better than most at cross-disability
issues.)

I hope that one of these solutions works for you and that you can
resolve the problem with your washer.

I was with you... up until the part about you being called by a
"child" who you suspect is NOT from corporate HQ. Was this really a
child? Why do you suspect that she wasn't from corporate? Did she
REALLY tell you that you bought "garbage" and say it was your fault?

While people say some pretty stupid things on the phone, I find it
very hard to believe that this is exactly what she said.

I certainly don't think that she said that they have your signature
agreeing to "garbage."

OK, but lets get back to me being with you.

First, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is not a defective
machine, but simply a need to have the machine balanced. There are
adjustable feet on the bottom to ensure that the machine is level. If
they aren't set correctly (or have come loose), your machine can
rattle up a storm.

It was the responsibility of the person that installed the machine to
set these feet and test the machine to see that it was level.

That said, there MIGHT be something wrong with the machine. In which
case, they need to make good on any store-provided warranties.

Which bring me to an assumption: since you purchased a floor-model, it
might have been sold to you without a store warranty. I'll bet that's
what Shuniqua was telling you. Often floor models cannot be returned
to the store, but still carry the manufacturers warranty. In some
cases, even that might be expired.

Check the paperwork to see if you purchased the machine "as-is" or if
they otherwise indicated if the machine was being sold without a store
and/or manufacturer's warranty. If so, and you signed, then
Shuniqua's correct: you signed and therefore there is no "tangled
web."

If there is no such paperwork, then they need to take care of repair
or replacement, subject to the store's official policy.

I'd like to suggest that you return to the store, if you're physically
able, and bring with you any paperwork (receipts, delivery orders,
etc.). Ask to speak to the manager and explain your situation. If
the manager cannot provide an explanation as to why you're not getting
a repair, as him to assist you in making an appointment. Right
then-and-there. For this reason, if you can go during the work day,
you'll fare better than going on a weekend when the repair shop may
not be open.

Don't get loud. Don't get angry. But be firm that you're getting the
run-around and that you'd like the manager's assistance in resolving
this matter.

On the other hand, if you did sign away your "right" to a
repair/replacement, then say "thank you" and leave. Then go and call
a repair shop, on your own.
