Home Depot Credit Card Fraud

A couple of years ago, my business was issued a Home Depot credit card for a credit limit of $5,000. I rarely use this card and when I do, I never spend more than a few hundred dollars. I keep the card in my wallet at all times and have never lent it to anyone nor have I given the card number to anyone.
I was shocked to discover that there was a balance due of $5,856.75 on my card when I looked at my last statement. Someone had made this purchase in Florida. I live in Texas and have never even travelled to Florida nor do I know anyone in Florida.
I called the billing department to find out who had made the charge. To my utter surprise, they told me that whoever made the purchase did so without presenting the card nor a name or an address.
How can Home Depot allow a charge of over $5,000 without asking to see the card, the purchaser's driving license, or any other form of identity proof???? The charge was also $856.75 over the credit limit of the card - why was this allowed?
I have closed the account and faxed a letter explaining the situation to Home Depot.
The Home Depot credit card is only good at Home Depot - it is not a card I use to make purchases elsewhere or on the internet. No one could have found out my card number other than a Home Depot employee.
At the least, resolving this situation will waste a lot of my time. Home Depot should not have accepted this transaction when the card or an identification was not presented. Other credit cards reject the charge when the card is being used in a city other than the card holder's city of residence - especially when the charge is unusually high.
I am extremely dissapointed with Home Depot's management and credit card policy.
Remove this charge from my account immediately. Never accept a charge if the purchaser cannot present the credit card along with a driver's license.

I had the same thing happed to me earlier this year. Someone put a $900 purchase on my card in another state. I don't see how this could happen. NOW...for the latest scam. I made a payment ONE DAY late in June. The July bill showed double the usual amount $85.00, but I only paid the regular monthly amount. This caused a late charged, and also when the August bill came, it showed $125.00 due. HOW can this be when I didn't miss a single monthly payment. They have a SCAM going and I intend to turn it over to the state attorney general. I will NEVER buy anything else from them. I don't have this kind of problem with Lowes.

You should make sure you send a letter in writing directly to the Home Depot Credit Card company. Most terms and conditions state you have to dispute the charge within a certain amount of time and that it must be put in writing to preserve your right to dispute.

Year after year the Home Depot sends out a press release on how they are going to spend millions of dollars on customer service. I have a news flash for the Home Depot "It is not working" When I signed my contract on 9-14-05 the Home Depot was full of promises and now they can not seem to keep them. Now almost 14 months later and problems still are not corrected you can see the Home Depot just does not care about its customers. They will lose one customer at a time and end up like the old HQ. You can visit my web site at http://www.freewebs.com/myroof to see the destruction.

My wife and i actuaaly were told to help cut the carpet and move heavy machibery to get some carpet cut. they told us how well they train and i got a formal reply to offer me a $10.00 gift card. you will need all the luck and patience. They will not help you.

You would be wise if you sent or faxed a letter like this directly to Home Depot. Keep proof that you did so.
Request a copy of the transaction receipt with your signature on it, if they have it. Give them a reasonable time to respond like 30 days.
Notify the individual credit reporting agencies of identity theft and make sure nothing negative goes on your account.

Very well written letter. I hope you get some kind of response from them.
HD had better wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. Their customer service is at an all-time low.
