Home Depot -- A Great Customer Service Experience

Last Sunday evening at 7:30 pm, my cousin and I arrived at Home Depot (Buffalo, NY - Store #1234) with the intention of purchasing a propane tank. When we pulled into the parking lot, we noticed the lot looked rather empty with the exception of a few employees straightening up outside. A quick question to an employee confirmed that it closed at 7 pm.
You know the expletives that were going through our head -- and there goes the BBQ.
Not so fast. My determined, but polite, cousin leaped out of the car and ran up to Sam, one of the Home Depot employees, and pleaded with him to sell us a propane tank.
Sam listened and told us to hold on while he checked if any register was open. It was our lucky day -- a register was open! The propane tank was ours.
A big thank you to Sam, who has single-handedly reversed my negative thoughts about customer service at Home Depot.
Give Sam a raise -- he is a keeper!

It's always great to see a letter praising an employee or store, but there is one line in this letter that just rubs me the wrong way:
"....reversed my negative thoughts about customer service at Home Depot."
You arrived at a store thirty minutes after the posted closing time. You were lucky that Sam was willing to bend the regs for you, delay other employees from going home on schedule, delay the closing routine of counting registers, putting away inventory, cleaning the store, and who knows what else.
You were lucky, but instead of leaving it at that, you had to rub in the fact that you have a poor opinion of Home Depot that is only reversed when the employees bend over backwards to kiss your feet.
I have to wonder if the other employees were as grateful to Sam as you are. :) From experience, I know that at closing time I want desperately to go home, not deal with customers who can't come in during posted hours.
I also have to wonder how 'determined, but polite' your cousin was. :)
