My grandparents have a Newfy as well. It's their second. Sadly their first passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of 13. They actually received him because the original family was moving out of state and couldn't take him with them so they had him since he was a little over a year old. Now, at 70+ years old they have a puppy. It's less than a year old and it's huge and slobbery. lol
Absolutely wonderful dogs. So gentle and patient. Still can't believe how well he does with my babies with him being a baby himself. Amazing. :)
You need a lot of space for one of those babies!! I'm sure the puppy has softened the loss a little for your grandparents. I'm glad they opted to get another dog, especially at such a "mature" age. Pets are wonderful for everyone but I think especially for the elderly and the sick. My dog Teri lay with my mom most of her life. My mom suffered with Multiple Sclerosis for 16 years before she finally succombed to it. Teri gave my mom such comfort and companionship. Even though I was right here taking care of my mom the whole time, Teri was just an extended hand away. I have two cats now and any time I'm upset about something, they find me and sit and meow at me and push under my hand for me to pet them. Animals just know and they give without asking anything in return. One of the reasons why I love animals and people suck (the general populace).
