I have to echo what S. Brown said. Did you fill out the referral paperwork and did your referrals tell Sprint/Nextel that it was you who referred them? If not, they have no way of knowing and are not psychic.
Did you obtain the employee discount code and call customer service? I know sometimes, even with the code, they tell you that you must go to a store to obtain the discount since they want you to prove that you are an employee. They tried to tell me this but, luckily, my rep obtained it for me since I handle over 2000 Nextels for my firm. Again, they are not psychic, you must tell them that you have a employee discount.
They are not going to give you a "back up" phone, sorry, not going to happen.
