Maybe it's just me, but I see this as a bit petty.
I mean, your friend is almost guaranteed a copy of the book what with 500 extra copies available.
If you're attending this function for the added festivities as you say, waiting for that extra book shouldn't be such a big deal.

Am I the only one who thinks the OP's reaction is a bit much?
