Re: Misrepresentation of Hotel by Orbitz
by Casmly - Posted Wed August 15, 2007 @ 12:18 PM

This is why I never book anything but plane tickets through a third part site. And I'm even starting to get away from that. I don't know about Orbitz, but many of these third party websites do not guarantee that what you book is what you will get. Last November my husband was checking our family into a hotel. We had reservations booked in advance just like the lady ahead of us. However, the lady ahead of us had booked through a third party website. She had requested a smoking room, and was fuming when she received her room assignment and it wasn't in the smoking section. She through an absolute fit for about 30 minutes. After she had left, the gentleman behind the counter let my husband know that this happens all the time. People book through third party websites and make requests that can't be fulfilled for one reason or another. But since the request is made through the third party, the purchaser is never informed that the request can't be fulfilled. He also explained that these are usually the first people they "bump" when needed. In my opinion, next time you should think about using Expedia or a similar site for research purposes, then go to the hotel website and book directly from there. More steps, but worth it in my opinion.
