I worked with a young african american woman in 1994. She became pregnant, and her boyfriend wanted nothing to do with her. I assumed she would be upset, but she didn't appear to be at all.

I spoke with a mutual friend, who said the woman had expressed that "where she was from" (a large city somewhere in NJ) it was a wonderful thing for a woman to have a child, with or without a father.

Where I am from, it was viewed differently. Maybe it is cultural differences, I don't know.
