Well, I was driving to work this morning and I saw a dog loose on the median of the highway. I doubled back to see if I could find it and get it into my truck to take to the shelter but it disappeared back into the wooded area of the median.

I decided I would call Animal Control when I got to work. Before I got there, I saw a Highway Patrol car and pulled over to tell him. I figured it could be dangerous if the dog tried to cross the highway and caused an accident. To my suprise, there was no cop in the car!

I get to work and locate the number for Animal Control. They're not open yet and the website says to call the Bureau of Public Safety. I call them and they take the information but tell me to call 911. I didn't think this was a 911 issue so I decide to call the Highway Patrol. Of course, I can't locate a number for them so I call my local precint. (the officer who answered was shocked that Public Safety told me to call 911 and thanked me for calling directly) He connected me to Highway Patrol and they advised me that they were on the scene with Animal Control. I felt much better knowing the maybe something was being done.

I felt so bad for the dog, it had a collar on. It must have gotten onto the median at a time when traffic was light and couldn't get off. I hope they can locate the owner.

I guess my good deed paid off with some karma since I didn't get a ticket for my illegal left turn.
