Re: USAA Casualty Insurance Should Honor My Request
by Gretchen Kole - Posted Thu November 8, 2007 @ 9:34 AM

USAA advertises itself as a company that supports the troops. Who better to judge this than the troops themselves? When a company makes that claim and uses it to make money and generate business then turns around and doesn't pay a fair and equitable amount for a vehicle it comes close to exploiting the troops, not supporting them and that is very shameful. It just happens to be about the military with this situation. The same point could be made if a company claimed to support teachers, retired people or any other group then took advantage of the same group they claimed to serve. It is a valid statement and relevant to the complaint.

Increasing, I hear from friends and family about insurance companies coming up short on claims of this sort. It sounds like an easy way for the company to increase its profits at the expense of their customers, more accurately referred to as victims. People need to keep these seemingly arbitrary, low dollar amounts that insurance companies use to assess value in check. Otherwise, we will all end up paying high premiums and finding we are able to recoup less and less on the claims. This is developing into a scam by insurance companies because apparently there aren't adequate laws to protect against it. If everybody just settles for less then that is exactly what everybody will get.

It sounds like the author is only trying to be put into the situation he was in before his car was damaged through no fault of his own. That is exactly what I would expect out of my insurance company. If he did something to cause the accident then he should be out a deductible but that is not the case here. I would hate to think that every time I park my car I risk losing hundreds of dollars even though I did nothing wrong. It is usually inconvenient enough to deal with repairs and rentals but to have your own insurance company short change you is inexcusable.

The true test of an insurance company is not how efficiently they take your money but how honest they are when they have to pay money to you. I hope USAA pays you what you are due but I wouldn't count on them for anything else. As for supporting the troops, the only troops they seem interested in supporting are the ones that hold stock in their company.

Good Luck,
gk
