The OP may need to allow processing time. Many companies that deal with huge numbers of shipments need time to process a return and arrange a replacement. This may not always happen the same day the return is received physically.

Christmas cannot be ruined because one present is in limbo. Unless, of course, the OP's family considers Christmas to be only about the presents.
