The two words do have different meanings. An electric can opener is electric. An electric can opener with a built-in timer so it starts to open a can at precisely the moment you want it to happen would be electronic.

I would never consider a paper shredder to be "technology" or "electronic." If it falls under the category of "technology," then so do 99% of the products we use in our homes.
